From the brutality of World War One springs a conflict between two
officers so deadly that all horrors of the Western Front are pushed
to one side. Captain Sebastian Windward, the only son and heir of
Lord Windward stands accused of cowardice in the face of the enemy
by one of his junior officers, Lt Richard Finch. During a heated
argument Windward attempts to kill Finch hopeful of keeping his
cowardice hidden. When Finch survives Windward orders his arrest
for attacking a senior officer. Aware it his word against his
senior officer Finch is confined and awaits a court martial. But
others, also familiar with Windward's cowardice help Finch escape.
Dressed as a private and swearing revenge Finch makes his way back
to England. Skulking in the shadows of the East End of London,
Finch is forced into a number of unsavoury jobs to earn a living
and keep from the clutches of authority. Soon his personal conflict
becomes enmeshed with guilt and a burning desire for revenge begins
to prey on his mind and the death of Windward becomes an obsession.
When their paths cross once more it is Windward who strikes the
first blow, and Finch is dealt a shattering blow and teetering on
the edge of insanity fears he is about to lose his mind
A Gabriel Horn thriller: Book One
A DEADLY BEGINNING
Compromised by the FSB, Gabriel Horn is reluctantly released by
MI5. Struggling to pick up the pieces of his life he is approached
by the opposition Minister of Defence, Sir Adrian Gold. Twisted
with grief by the death of his only grandson in Afghanistan due to
lack of equipment, Sir Adrian pays him to kill the serving Minister
of Defence.
THE EXECUTION
After completing the contract Sir Adrian offers him a further
40,000 to assassinate the British Prime Minister and his deputy.
Horn laughs, and believing it to be a joke offers to do it for one
million pounds. Sir Adrian accepts.
THE RECKONING
Backed into a corner and already under suspicion from Scotland
Yard's Counter Terrorist Command and MI5, a game of cat and mouse
begins as the authorities begin to close in. But Horn has been
trained well by his ex-MI5 masters and remains one step in front.
Then the CIA takes a hand, and Horn finds himself trapped in a
massive jig-saw of treachery.
Tom Gillet's army career was his world. After attempting to force
an entrance into a suspected terrorist's hideout in Afghanistan, he
was pulled back by a young Afghan boy before an IED exploded, and
he lost a foot when it might have been his life. In reprisal, the
Taliban murdered the boy's family as an example to anyone foolish
enough to assist the coalition forces. Seeking one more slice of
action and riddled with guilt. Under his own steam Gillet returns
to Afghanistan to repay the debt, armed with the knowledge the boy
has been sold as a dancing boy into child sex slavery.
