Teamworking Skills for Social Workers (Paperback, Ed): Ruben Martin Teamworking Skills for Social Workers (Paperback, Ed)
Ruben Martin 1
R827 Discovery Miles 8 270 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Ruben Martin is an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Social Work at the University of Kent, where he was previously Director of Studies for the BA (Hons) Social Work programme for seven years. Since his retirement from his full-time post, he has continued work as a part-time lecturer, consultant, freelance practice educator and writer. What is your optimal role in a team environment? How do teamworking skills differ between various contexts and groups? Written by a highly-experienced lecturer and practitioner of social work, this book explores the dynamics of teamworking in the context of social work, whether in collaboration with colleagues or professionals from other fields. It provides a practical and applied overview of the different types of teams that social workers encounter and outlines in an accessible format the core teamworking skills social workers must develop in order to practice effectively. This is achieved by way of specific links to the Professional Capabilities Framework, checklists for self-evaluation and reflective social work practice, activities and case examples. Together, these resources make this guide to teamworking a must-have for students of social work and practitioners involved in continuous professional development. Topics covered include: The characteristics of individuals within a team, including the formal and informal roles they play and leadership. Emotional intelligence and resilience. The application of teamworking skills to working in organisations, multidisciplinary teams, and interagency collaboration and partnership. *** This book forms part of the Social Work Skills in Practice series. I am not aware of a similar book which is able to convey the basic tenets of team-working as well as the necessary skills to do team working well. It is an important book which should be on the course lists of all early stage social workers. The book brings together social work theory relating to team work within an ecological framework. Students are given activities to reflect on their current level of skills. Excellent case studies illustrate the issues. The book is totally up-to-date, linking into recent material from the College of Social Work. I strongly recommend this book. I think students will find the material engaging and accessible, but they will also learn much about the essential team working skills for social work." Ann Buchanan, Emeritus Professor of Social Work, University of Oxford, UK

Modeling the Infrared Intensity of a Large Commercial Aircraft (Paperback): Ruben Martinez Modeling the Infrared Intensity of a Large Commercial Aircraft (Paperback)
Ruben Martinez
R1,339 Discovery Miles 13 390 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Measuring the infrared signature of large civilian aircraft has become increasingly important due to the proliferation of man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS) and the increasing threat of their use by terrorists. Because of the range of these shoulder-fired weapons, most aircraft flying over 20,000 feet are safe from the threat; however, aircraft taking-off or landing are extremely vulnerable. A radiometric model was developed to simulate a large commercial aircraft's infrared intensity during these two critical phases of flight. The radiometric model was largely based on the dimensions of a Boeing 747-400 aircraft. It is capable of simulating elevation angles between -20 degrees and +20 degrees, as well as 360 degrees in azimuth in its projected area analysis of the faceted model. The model utilizes an obscuration matrix to determine which parts of the aircraft are in view by the observer and thus contribute to the aircraft's intensity. A simple one-bounce reflection matrix was also included to incorporate reflections of hot parts off other body parts as well as earth- and sky-shine contributions to the overall intensity.

Tia Chucha Press is proud to present an anthology of Central American writers living in the United States. It features work that captures the complexity of a rapidly growing community that shares certain experiences with other Latino groups, but also offers its own unique narrative. This is the first-ever comprehensive literary survey of the Central American diaspora by a U.S. publisher, perfect for high school, college, or university courses in U.S. literature, Latino literature, multicultural studies, and migration studies. A multi-genre collection - including poems, short stories, essays, memoir or novel excerpts, and creative nonfiction - the book showcases writers who render a multiplicity of experiences, as refugees from the wars of the 1980s to those who barely remember the homeland or who were born in el norte. There are writers from both coasts and from the middle. Their aesthetics range from hip-hop inflected to high literary to acrobatics in Spanglish. Yet it is a community that shares a history of violence - both here and back home - and the hope and healing that ensures its survival. They include migrants or children of migrants from countries in the so-called Northern Triangle - El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras - considered one of the most violent places on earth, as well as from Belize, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Panama.
