Los patrones de distribucion de las Unidades Ecologicas de Paisaje (UEP) derivados de las actividades agricolas de cuatro comunidades de la etnia Piaroa en la selva amazonica, son descritos y analizados en relacion con los diferentes estadios de sucesion de los sistemas de cultivos (conucos) y las areas de regeneracion de los mismos. Para estas comunidades se muestran los patrones de distribucion de las diferentes UEP. Adicionalmente se analizo los procesos de ocupacion y distribucion de UEP en relacion a la edad de la comunidad y el tamano de la poblacion humana existente. Se observo que las comunidades con mayor edad, presentan un gran numero de estadios sucesionales tempranos y estadios intermedios, con pequenas areas y una gran fragmentacion. En contraste, las comunidades de menor edad tienen mayor numero de areas con estadios sucesionales avanzados. Estos resultados se deben principalmente al incremento de la presion del uso de la tierra en las comunidades conduciendo a una pobre recuperacion de las areas naturales."

En el analisis del llanto infantil, es de gran importancia reconocer las caracteristicas cualitativas, ya que proporcionan informacion adicional que permite identi car variaciones o semejanzas entre llantos normales y patologicos. En la actualidad el analisis de caracteristicas cualitativas se realiza de forma manual, por medio de la percepcion visual (espectrograma) y auditiva (sonido) de los medicos expertos, quienes de acuerdo a lo que ven y escuchan, emiten un diagnostico. Un proceso previo al analisis de caracteristicas cualitativas, es la deteccion de unidades de llanto, es por eso que en este trabajo se presentan dos metodos. El primer metodo para deteccion automatica de unidades de llanto y el segundo metodo llamado por nosotros metodo del dodecacrama, que permite identi car razonablemente el tipo de melodia, shifts, glides y concentraciones de ruido en unidades de llanto de forma automatica."
