A comprehensive examination of the links between wisdom literature
and prophecy. The book is divided into four sections. The first
addresses methodological concerns such as identifying "wisdom,"
identifying potential sociological spheres for wisdom and prophecy
in the ancient Near East, and recognizing potential textual
relationships. The second examines the role of wisdom in the
prophetic corpus more broadly in a book-by-book analysis of
biblical texts, first examining the role of wisdom in the prophetic
corpus of the Hebrew Bible. The third section looks at elements of
prophecy within the traditional wisdom books such as Job, Proverbs
and Qoheleth. Finally, the book continues the conversation by
providing two concluding chapters that evaluate, critique, engage,
and raise new questions that Hebrew Bible scholars will need to
wrestle with as the search for the relationship between wisdom and
prophecy moves forward.
This volume is a comprehensive listing of bibliographical
references to writings on the book of Ecclesiastes, beginning from
1900. Rather than being presented in alphabetical order, these
references are classified according to genre, chapter, subject and
theme; among the myriad of classifications are biblical theology,
commentaries, death and the afterlife, God/the divine, joy,
language, sexuality, structure and wisdom. These classifications
have been selected by specialists of Ecclesiastes, in order to
guide scholars and researchers through the wealth of secondary
material available and to prompt further research on the text.
Through its collation of the incredible amount of bibliographical
data on the book of Ecclesiastes, this collection will prove a
vital resource for those working on Ecclesiastes for years to come.

Ecclesiastes: A Participatory Study Guide is the ninth volume in
the Participatory Study Series and the first that is a guide to an
Old Testament book. There has been much controversy about the
correct approach to interpreting Ecclesiastes. Is the author
clinically depressed? Should you read the book when you're down in
order to find someone who can join you in your misery? Is there
anything uplifting in it? There are some who have thought the book
doesn't belong in the Bible at all. Russell L. Meek takes a
different approach. Through a serious study of the language and of
the relationship between the text and that of other Bible writers,
he discovers a much more positive message. It is still a book that
can help you if you're looking at the troubles and problems of the
world. But it is more than a place to find a companion in misery.
In its text you can find help from someone who knows the way out,
who knows how a person of faith, even if that faith is tried to the
breaking point, can find enjoyment and rest in God. Its six lessons
are thematic, covering issues such as the date, authorship and
literary context of the book, the meaning of the key Hebrew word
hebel, traditionally translated "vanity," the theme of death in
Ecclesiastes, the way the author makes use of other scriptural text
and why this is important to our understanding of the book,
injustice, and how we should respond to the troubles of life. It is
not just a theoretical study, but always examines how this Bible
book can guide us in our lives. This study guide continues the
tradition of the Participatory Study Series by helping to model
different techniques and approaches for Bible study. The author
doesn't just tell you what the text means; he shows you how to
discover this and gives you the opportunity to interact with the
Bible text for yourself. It's designed for use by small groups, but
it is also suitable for individual study. As is the case with each
volume in this series, it includes pointers to help with your own
Bible study and lists of resources to help guide you.
Description: There are numerous issues in the public square
confronting the Western church. While there are any number of books
available on each of the topics engaged in this collection of
essays--just war, family planning, rest, immigration, politics,
economic recession, fair trade, and health care--there is no
compact guide that approaches each of these issues from an
evangelical perspective. Coffee Shop Conversations does just that.
The book does not aim to address each issue exhaustively; instead,
it offers an evangelical approach to these topics, with the hopes
that the door will be opened for further conversation. This book
brings together the expertise of several evangelical scholars who
are committed to serving the church through scholarship. The volume
is therefore ideal for student ministry, Sunday school classes,
small groups, and individuals interested in engaging the wider
culture from a stance that is well reasoned and committed to
biblical faith and practice. Endorsements: "Scholarly without being
pedantic, helpful without being burdensome, this new work by a
variety of young scholars provides discussion on a variety of
needed topics. As an ethicist myself, I am always delighted to see
young scholars delve into areas of needed discussion. I am excited
this book has been written and that these essays might well receive
a much broader audience. Of times when believers ought to be salt
and light, that day is now I commend this group for moving us from
where we are to where we ought to be " --Frank S. Page, President
and Chief Executive Officer, Southern Baptist Convention Executive
Committee "Coffee Shop Conversations is as provocative as it is
informative. The authors do not presume to offer 'definitive'
answers to our generation's most pressing ethical problems, but
they will certainly get us thinking. You'll disagree with some of
it (I did) and you'll benefit from all of it. I can't imagine a
more interesting book to use as a discussion starter with friends
in any Christian setting." --Gary M. Burge, Professor of New
Testament, Wheaton College and Graduate School About the

V1-ROTATE SYNOPSIS: "Gateway 329 heavy, you're cleared into
position runway 30, cleared for takeoff." "Roger Tower, 329 heavy
is rolling." As Captain Michael McGraw maneuvered the heavy jet
into position on the runway and advanced the throttles, the
aircraft began its headlong dash into the sky. First Officer Ryan
Starnes reported "Airspeed alive 60 knots," As the aircraft
continued to accelerate along the narrow runway, Ryan continued to
call out the speeds until they reached, "V-1 and then VR rotate
speed. With deft backpressure applied to the control yoke by the
able captain, the heavy jet rose gracefully into the sky. First
officer Ryan Starnes began his maiden flight for Gateway
International Airlines some months earlier with the "tough as
nails" Captain Michael McGraw. If his luck of the draw wasn't bad
enough, he also had to deal with a menacing storm brewing. Ryan had
heard many rumors as to what to expect from the notorious Capt.
McGraw; he would learn that most were true. Years ago, paths
crossed and left deep imprints in their lives. Explore the intimate
details of the lives of two very strong willed and stubborn men.
Antagonists, united by their chosen profession, bonded by a fateful
event, the secrets that lurk beneath the surface will undoubtedly
change their lives. Share their adventures, their loves and
challenges in the world of aviation. Meet Connie, the poised,
sophisticated, sensuous woman whose mistake early in life had a
profound effect on the lives of both men. Get to know the lovely
Melissa. So incredibly beautiful that most men treated her like a
rare china doll. Melissa shared their love of flying, but made it
her personal rule never to date pilots. That isuntil she met Ryan.
Ryan definitely had a way with the women. Somehow he knew from the
first time he met her that Melissa was different. Read about the
deceptions, the intrigue, the sexual trysts and the fast-paced
lives of the crews of Gateway Internation
