Panels for Transportation Planning - Methods and Applications (Hardcover, 1997 ed.): Thomas F. Golob, Ryuichi Kitamura, Lyn Long Panels for Transportation Planning - Methods and Applications (Hardcover, 1997 ed.)
Thomas F. Golob, Ryuichi Kitamura, Lyn Long
R4,233 Discovery Miles 42 330 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Panels for Transportation Planning argues that panels - repeated measurements on the same sets of households or individuals over time - can more effectively capture dynamic changes in travel behavior, and the factors which underlie these changes, than can conventional cross-sectional surveys. Because panels can collect information on household attributes, attitudes and perceptions, residential and employment choices, travel behavior and other variables - and then can collect information on changes in these variables over time - they help us to understand how and why people choose to travel as they do, and how and why these choices are likely to evolve in the future. This book is designed for a wide audience: survey researchers who seek information on methodological advancements and applications; transportation planners who want an improved understanding of dynamic changes in travel behavior; and instructors of graduate courses in urban and transportation planning, research methods, economics, sociology, and public policy. Each chapter has been prepared to stand alone to illustrate a particular theme or application. The book is divided into topical parts which address the most salient issues in the use of panels for transportation planning: panels as evaluation tools, regional planning applications, accounting for response bias, and modeling and forecasting issues. These parts describe panel applications in the US, Australia, Great Britain, Japan, and the Netherlands. Each chapter is supplemented by extensive references; more than 400 studies, reflecting the work of more than 700 authors, are cited in the text.

Simulation Approaches in Transportation Analysis - Recent Advances and Challenges (Hardcover, 2005 ed.): Ryuichi Kitamura,... Simulation Approaches in Transportation Analysis - Recent Advances and Challenges (Hardcover, 2005 ed.)
Ryuichi Kitamura, Masao Kuwahara
R2,871 Discovery Miles 28 710 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Simulation Approaches in Transportation Analysis Recent Advances and Challenges presents the latest developments in transport simulation, including dynamic network simulation and micro-simulation of people 's movement in an urban area. It offers a collection of the major simulation models that are now in use throughout the world; it illustrates each model in detail, examines potential problems, and points to directions for future development. The reader will be able to understand the functioning, applicability, and usefulness of advanced transport simulation models. The material in this book will be of wide use to graduate students and practitioners as well as researchers in the transportation engineering and planning fields.

Ryuichi Kitamura, Toshio Yoshii, Toshiyuki Yamamoto
R5,602 Discovery Miles 56 020 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The IATBR conference proceedings series has a history of over 30 years and is widely read by researchers, practitioners and graduate students in the field of transportation and urban planning in general, and in travel behaviour analysis in particular. It is the only series of conference proceedings that comprehensively reviews, synthesizes, and identifies research needs and future research directions for the respective sub areas of the travel behaviour research field and presents up-to-date, state-of-the-art assessments by distinguished authors. This volume of the 11th International Conference on Travel Behaviour Research, held in Kyoto, Japan, in August 2006, examines key issues and emerging trends in the expanding field of travel behaviour. These proceedings contain: the keynote speeches of Professor John Urry of Lancaster University (sociology) and Professor Masahisa Fujita of (then) Kyoto University (economics); workshop resource papers by distinguished authors in nine subject areas; synthesis papers (with a focus on Asian developments); and 16 research papers selected from presentation sessions. All papers, including the workshop reports, were reviewed by at least two referees.
