This volume brings together new essays on the relations between fiction and the economy by eleven academics, all established or emergent scholars from different fields of expertise. The essays range widely in their respective foci, extending beyond purely literary studies to encompass history, the history of language, studies in the visual arts, and philosophy. Including essays from leading (and in some cases multilingual) academics in Europe as well as the UK, Fiction and Economy is genuinely international, distinctive, and broad in its scope.
This book brings together current research on stigma, stigma management, and stigma theory as applied to business and management at the micro, meso, and macro levels. It provides a comprehensive perspective of the literature on stigmas and is relevant to those working in organizational behavior, human resource management, and management studies more broadly. The book includes chapters covering topics at the individual level (e.g., religious belief, illness, obesity, and sexual preference), occupational level (e.g., healthcare workers, garbage collectors, butchers, medical doctors), and organizational level (e.g., organizational image, multinational organizations). It offers readers a truly international perspective on this growing area of study.
The Rosemead Psychology Series is a continuing series of studies written for professionals and students in the fields of psychology and theology and in related areas such as pastoral counseling. It seeks to present current thinking on the subject of the integration of psychology that grow out of the interface of psychology and theology. The data and theories of both theoretical and applied psychology are treated in this series, as well as fundamental theological concepts and issues that bear on psychological research, theory, and practice. These volumes are offered with the hope that they will stimulate further thinking and publication on the integration of psychology and the Christian faith.

Christianity in the democracies of the 'first' world has been
declining in power, popularity and prestige for a century. However,
many commentators, social scientists as well as church leaders, try
and minimize the extent of this change. They maintain that
religious sentiment remains strong despite declining levels of
church involvement, and insist that secularization is an academic
myth. In this robust defense of the secularization paradigm, Bruce
elaborates just what Weber, Durkheim, Berger and Wilson thought was
happening to religion in the West, and responds to critics of this
concept. Specific topics covered include the significance of New
Age spirituality, the influence of eastern religions on the West,
the impact of science, the charismatic movement, religion and
politics in the USA, and the future of religion. Bruce concludes the old orthodoxy was right: cultural diversity, in egalitarian and liberal democracies that place the individual above the community, undermines religious belief. Drawing on a diverse range of international examples, and written by one of the foremost sociologists of religion working today," God is Dead" moves the debate about secularization forward. It will be an invaluable resource for students of sociology of religion, modern religion, Christianity, new religious movements and religion and culture.

Islamic fundamentalists wreck the financial heart of New York;
Hindus destroy a mosque at Ayodhya; Orthodox Jews battle
Palestinians for possession of holy sites; in Egypt, Israel and
India political leaders are murdered by religious zealots. In many
parts of the world, religion combines with ethnic and national
conflict to stimulate political militancy. The collapse of
Communism and the failure of Western secular models of development
have stimulated the revival of religiously inspired nationalisms.
Even in stable affluent democracies, religion is a powerful
influence on political preferences. It affects lifestyle concerns
such as abortion, gender roles and gay rights. It influences
economic attitudes. It shapes the alignments of political parties.
Believers try to influence governments and, although most
governments in principle tolerate religious diversity, many still
attempt to regulate religious behaviour, particularly that of new
religious movements.
Steve Bruce draws on material from all over the world and from all religious traditions to explore the complex links between religion and politics. He shows that, while social, economic and political circumstances shape the political choices and actions of believers, religion still matters. Although the major world faiths have at times been associated with every conceivable political agenda, there remain important differences between Catholic, Protestant, Hindu, Jewish, Buddhist, Confucian, Shinto and Muslim politics.
The new edition of Steve Bruce's Fundamentalism grapples with the
combination of social strains and religious ideas that have
produced an explosion of fundamentalist activity in the wake of
9/11.
This is a new release of the original 1951 edition.

Brownie's Home is a short novel about a little brown puppy that someone had put out along the road that became special to this family who became very fond of Brownie. Brownie was a champion of a dog he was playful at times, didn't want to be bothered at times, wasn't scared of anything and was a good protector. Brownie was a unique dog. I wanted to let people know just what he meant to me and my family it was an exciting time of my life and to have a pet that you were as close to as we were to Brownie. I see why people become fond of their dogs that become a part of their life.
J wrote this book, I'm Still a Young Man several years ago. It laid on the shelf for quite some time. Then one day I had a bad incident happen to me. I passed out and had to have a defibralator on my chest to revive me. God gave me more time to do what He wanted me to do. He gave me inspiration to live. I realized that perhaps my book that had lain on the shelf for so long could be a tool for young men to know that while everyone may not be successful in all things they do, they should not result to violent crimes, early suicide, teenage pregnancy and any other horrible criminal acts. We should excise determination in finding a path to our goals. In addition to that, we should excise lifting each other up in love. When you give up your life or take someone else's life, you get zero in life. We can't keep losing our young men. Read this book and see that everyone has obstacles in their life. Thank God again and again. My inspirations come from Sebrena, Stevie and Shaun.

The National Institute of Standards and Technology supplies calibrated photodiode standards and special tests of photodetectors for absolute spectral responsivity from 200 nm to 1800 nm. (This service will soon be expanded to 20 m in the infrared.) The scale of absolute spectral responsivity is based solely on detector measurements traceable to the High Accuracy Cryogenic Radiometer maintained by the National Institute of Standards and Technology. Silicon photodiode light-trapping detectors are used to transfer the optical power unit from this cryogenic radiometer to monochromator-based facilities where routine measurements are performed. The transfer also involves modeling the quantum efficiency of the silicon photodiode light-trapping detectors. A description of current measurement services is given along with the procedures, equipment, and techniques used to perform these calibrations. Detailed estimates and procedures for determining uncertainties of the reported values are also presented."
