This is an open access book which focuses on different aspects of
education, employment, and successful integration of migrants in
three countries: Norway, Sweden, and Switzerland. The chapters in
this book reflect on these issues from micro, meso and macro
perspectives; some are based on interviews with migrants and people
who work with them, others on documents and literature about
migration. There are different pathways for skilled migrants to
vocations. Some start working in their previous vocations after
arriving in the new environment. Some re-enter their professions
but on a lower level. Some can re-train themselves in a new
vocation, and some will go to further education, as studies in
different chapters of this book suggest. Common for successful
integration seems to be several intertwined factors: the target
language competence, strong motivation and agency, supporting
networks and supporting persons, as well as structural
opportunities of the new environment. The book’s editorial board
takes an eclectic view, hoping to start an academic debate about
what ‘successful integration’ means. While discussions about
the integration of migrants tend to focus on integration failures,
there are millions of migrants, in different countries, who have
successfully integrated into their new societies.
This book traces the evolution of post-Cold War relations between
China and the US, focusing on their often conflicting efforts to
achieve economic growth, military prowess and technological
sophistication. Adopting a dual approach with equal emphasis on
Beijing and Washington, it sheds new light on the relationship
between the countries.
The last time global sovereign debt reached the level seen today
was at the end of the Second World War, and this shaped a
generation of economic policymaking. International institutions
were transformed, country policies were often draconian and
distortive, and many crises ensued. By the early 1970s, when debt
fell back to pre-war levels, the world was radically different. It
is likely that changes of a similar magnitude -for better and for
worse - will play out over coming decades. Sovereign Debt: A Guide
for Economists and Practitioners is an attempt to build some
structure around the issues of sovereign debt to help guide
economists, practitioners and policymakers through this
complicated, but not intractable, subject. Sovereign Debt brings
together some of the world's leading researchers and specialists in
sovereign debt to cover a range of sub-disciplines within this vast
topic. It explores debt management with debt sustainability; debt
reduction policies with crisis prevention policies; and the history
with the conjuncture. It is a foundation text for all those
interested in sovereign debt, with a particular focus real world
examples and issues.
Comprehensive Metaheuristics: Algorithms and Applications presents
the foundational underpinnings of metaheuristics and a broad scope
of algorithms and real-world applications across a variety of
research fields. The book starts with fundamentals, mathematical
prerequisites, and conceptual approaches to provide readers with a
solid foundation. After presenting multi-objective optimization,
constrained optimization, and problem formation for metaheuristics,
world-renowned authors give readers in-depth understanding of the
full spectrum of algorithms and techniques. Scientists,
researchers, academicians, and practitioners who are interested in
optimizing a process or procedure to achieve a goal will benefit
from the case studies of real-world applications from different
domains. The book takes a much-needed holistic approach, putting
the most widely used metaheuristic algorithms together with an
in-depth treatise on multi-disciplinary applications of
metaheuristics. Each algorithm is thoroughly analyzed to observe
its behavior, providing a detailed tutorial on how to solve
problems using metaheuristics. New case studies and research
problem statements are also discussed, which will help researchers
in their application of the concepts.
This unique clinical guide will explore specific evidence-based
literature supporting physical therapist guided exercises and
interventional treatments for commonly prevalent orthopedic spine
and extremity presentations. Using this book, the sports medicine
and interventional pain physician will be better able to coordinate
therapy exercises after interventional treatments with their
physical therapy colleagues. This will include a treatment course
that will monitor progress in restoring and accelerating patients'
function. A myriad of musculoskeletal conditions affecting the
spine, joints and extremities will be presented, including
tendinopathies, bursopathies, arthritis, fractures and dislocations
- everything a clinician can expect to see in a thriving practice.
Each chapter, co-authored by a physician and a physical therapist,
will follow a consistent format for ease of accessibility and
reference - introduction to the topic; diagnosis; medical,
interventional, and surgical management - and will be accompanied
by relevant radiographis, figures and illustrations. Additional
topics include osteoarthritis, rheumatic disorders, entrapment
syndromes, the use of orthobiologics, and more. Comprehensive
enough to function as a learning tool, but practical and
user-friendly enough for quick reference, Clinical Guide to
Musculoskeletal Medicine will be an essential resource for sports
medicine physicians, interventional and physical therapists.
What are the politics of gender within education? How are the issues of gender being explored in diverse educational settings? Does gender still matter in education? This book draws together the work from an international array of authors working at the cutting edge of gender research in education. From policy issues affecting single mothers to the co-optation of 'Southern learning' into Northern contexts, this collection provides a compelling argument for renewed engagement with gender issues at both macro and micro political levels within the full range of educational contexts--from primary to higher education.
This pocket-sized guide provides a practical and comprehensive
resource for orthopedic, PM&R, and musculoskeletal specialists,
as well as primary care physicians who work in the community
outpatient clinic setting. Its consistent chapter format covers
each area with anatomy, physical examination, preoperative
management, and postoperative rehabilitation sections for the spine
and extremities. The book presents treatment protocols for various
injuries, including physical therapy measures such as weight
bearing status, PRE, closed or open chain exercises, and timing for
returning to routine or sport activities. Its concise presentation
of rehabilitation for the upper and lower extremities, the hip and
pelvis, and the spine enables quick reference and clinical
decision-making. Furthermore, the book includes a chapter on
rehabilitation following the use of orthobiologics, making it a
valuable resource for healthcare professionals involved in
orthopedic rehabilitation after regenerative interventions.
Titles in the Pocket Tutor series give practical guidance at a

This collection features three peer-reviewed literature reviews on
reducing antibiotic use in dairy production. The first chapter
describes the regulatory control of medicines in the United Kingdom
and European Union and discusses the wider implications of
antimicrobial use in dairy production and the need for change in
the way we view and use medicines. The chapter also proposes how
medicine prescribing practices in the dairy industry may undergo a
series of changes in the near future. The second chapter considers
recent advances of disease prevention in dairy cattle. Using bovine
respiratory disease as a model, the chapter investigates key
interactions between the host, environment and pathogen. These
interactions can provide beneficial information that can be
utilised to develop a prevention platform for multiple syndromes of
bacterial disease in dairy cattle. The final chapter begins by
assessing the need to promote digestive efficiency and productivity
whilst maintaining animal health and welfare. It considers the role
of probiotics in achieving this and reviews the range of research
undertaken on the benefits and modes of action of probiotics. The
chapter also details the role of probiotics in reducing antibiotic
use in dairy production through improvements in areas such as
pathogen control, feed efficiency and methane production.
