This history of the 'Torrid Zone' offers a comprehensive and
powerfully rich exploration of the 17th century Anglophone Atlantic
world, overturning British and American historiographies and
offering instead a vernacular history that skillfully negotiates
diverse locations, periodizations, and the fraught waters of
ethnicity and gender.
Throughout the 1970s the British film industry struggled to
produce films which performed well at the box office and appealed
to audiences. As a result, the decade has often been considered as
one of the low points of British cinema. But was this really the
case? Conventional film histories of the decade have emphasised key
texts and specific genres, such as the Bond films, the Carry On
series or low budget horror. Yet British cinema in this period
offered a great deal more to audiences, and careful study of
original documents demonstrates the diversity and variety of an
industry, and a decade, typically perceived as limited and
unimaginative. An examination of important material - much of it
newly discovered or previously under-used - offers an insight into
the industry in this decade while key case studies present a
detailed picture of the eclectic, diverse and often challenging
film culture of the period.

This book is a provocative examination of the idea of greed from
various perspectives, drawing together experts from academia,
politics and business. "Greed" explores whether the desire for
material possession in post-industrial economies is a positive or a
negative phenomenon and considers the implications of greed on
society and the global economy.
This book sheds academic light on the role of strategy in
contemporary British party politics. It discusses the concept,
nature and role of political strategy, introducing a new way of
discovering how parties behave and re-examines events over the last
quarter of a century. This book fills an important gap in the
politics and history literature. There is no study of strategy in
contemporary British politics. Furthermore, unlike other books
where strategy is seen as either a communication or campaigning
term or, in pure political science, just about theoretical
positioning, this book makes use of the strategy literature (which
sits outside of political science) for the first time to help
better understand the behaviour of political parties. Drawing on
political history and taking a comparative approach, the book
describes strategic behaviour in three arenas: leadership and
organisational culture; the creation of critical mass, momentous,
electoral support; and the state of strategic disorder when the
party endures a failure of direction. Including ten extended
interviews with key political players such as Charles Kennedy,
Norman Lamont and Tony Wright, the book combines the theoreti

Is there more to 1970s British cinema than sex, horror and James
Bond? This lively account argues that this is definitely the case
and explores the cultural landscape of this much maligned decade to
uncover hidden gems and to explode many of the well-established
myths about 1970s British film and cinema.
For all of the technical explanations for meltdown in the financial
markets during the banking crisis, the most readily accepted and
almost universal explanation is the single word 'greed'. This is a
subject which can at once be seen as the disease at the heart of
society and the motivating force behind the progress of mankind.
Here in Book II of the Schoolmaster's Study Series we learn that
God chose and prepared a special people to accomplish a cosmic
purpose. Against the backdrop of the great war of the ages (See
Genesis 3:15), God gave Abraham and his offspring two promises; a
home and a Messiah that will bless the whole world. In this
precious story recorded by Moses, the Spirit of Truth reveals the
blessings of trusting God's promises wholeheartedly. We who are
Christ followers know "He has granted to us his precious and very
great promises" (2 Peter 1:4). As we watch God challenge the
Israelites to discern and forsake the world's temptation and hold
onto the matchless promises of God, we will find encouragement to
hold onto God's promises ourselves as we assume our place and share
the ultimate victory in the same great war of the ages. The Spirit
teaches us that "Since we have these promises, beloved, let us
cleanse ourselves from every defilement of body and spirit,
bringing holiness to completion in the fear of God" (2 Corinthians
7:1).

Archer, woodsman, hunter of man and beast, consort to the Avatar of
the Great Mother, father, and hero. Jared was all these things
during his life, and more. But, before he helped save the city of
Aeirsga, the Kingdom of Illyander and later the world of Aronshae,
he was an orphan; a child lost in the world. This is the story of
Jared in his early years and how his parents came to Illyander from
the mysterious Eastern Kingdom, how they died, and how the young
boy who had lost his parents before he knew them became one of the
finest scouts and bounty hunters in all of Illyander. Sirus, his
secretive mentor, taught him to use his abilities to commune with
the animals of the forest and that trust was a liability he could
ill afford. Jared's journey down the various paths of his life
eventually led him to be one of the greatest heroes in all of
Aronshae, but before that he was just a young man, trying to
survive in a world that he had been taught to fear and never told
why.
