The collection focuses on the advancements of characterization of
minerals, metals, and materials and the applications of
characterization results on the processing of these materials.
Advanced characterization methods, techniques, and new instruments
are emphasized. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to:
* Novel methods and techniques for characterizing materials across
a spectrum of systems and processes. * Characterization of
mechanical, thermal, electrical, optical, dielectric, magnetic,
physical, and other properties of materials. * Characterization of
structural, morphological, and topographical natures of materials
at micro- and nano- scales. * Characterization of extraction and
processing including process development and analysis. * Advances
in instrument developments for microstructure analysis and
performance evaluation of materials, such as computer tomography
(CT), X-ray and neutron diffraction, electron microscopy (SEM, FIB,
TEM), and spectroscopy (EDS, WDS, EBSD) techniques. * 2D and 3D
modelling for materials characterization. The book explores
scientific processes to characterize materials using modern
technologies, and focuses on the interrelationships and
interdependence among processing, structure, properties, and
performance of materials.
Based on a multi-year study with several large companies,
"Resurgence" reveals how some of the most interesting and notable
brands in the world have managed to stage remarkably successful
comebacks following periods of decline. The core of this book is a
smart, simple four-part framework for reinvention, plus compelling
advice distilled for general business readers. Yet, it also
features fascinating, insider accounts of the change process, with
stories from a core group of leaders at companies such as Motorola,
Alberto Culver, Harley-Davidson, and others, as they considered the
question: How do we reinvent a firm that does not recognize the
need for radical change? Three top marketing experts bring a
compelling wealth of experience and knowledge to the forefront as
they were granted extensive access to the executives at these
companies and track how each of these organizations look
dramatically different as a result of its changed efforts.
This collection gives broad and up-to-date results in the research
and development of materials characterization and processing.
Coverage is well-rounded from minerals, metals, and materials
characterization and developments in extraction to the fabrication
and performance of materials. In addition, topics as varied as
structural steels to electronic materials to plant-based composites
are explored. The latest research presented in this wide area make
this book both timely and relevant to the materials science field
as a whole. The book explores scientific processes to characterize
materials using modern technologies, and focuses on the
interrelationships and interdependence among processing, structure,
properties, and performance of materials. Topics covered include
ferrous materials, non-ferrous materials, minerals, ceramics,
clays, soft materials, method development, processing, corrosion,
welding, solidification, composites, extraction, powders,
nanomaterials, advanced materials, and several others.

Investigation of the disaster will pose questions regarding why
Daiichi was constructed in an earthquake-prone zone and was still
operating despite problems that had been plaguing the reactors
since 1989 such as cracks in infrastructure and leaks in
radioactivity. This book analyses and explores the impact of Japans
2011 nuclear crisis.
"In recent years adult educators have been working to develop an
important body of literature on neo-liberalism, capitalism, and
imperialism. Many of these analyses draw on various strands of
Marxist theorizing. With the exception of Jane Thompson's work as
an early socialist feminist, a Marxist-Feminist framework has yet
to be articulated for adult education. This text combines original
empirical studies with literature review from critical adult
education and feminist theory to examine the sites, theories, and
practices of adult education from a Marxist-Feminist perspective.

This authoritative, comprehensive, and accessible volume by leading
global experts provides a broad overview of marketing strategy
issues and questions, including its evolution, competitor analysis,
customer management, resource allocation, dynamics, branding,
advertising, multichannel management, digital marketing and
financial aspects of marketing. The Handbook comprises seven broad
topics. Part I focuses on the conceptual and organizational aspects
of marketing strategy while Part II deals with understanding
competition. Customers and customer-based strategy, marketing
strategy decisions, and branding and brand strategies are covered
in the next three parts while Part VI looks at marketing strategy
dynamics. The final part discusses the impact of marketing strategy
on performance variables such as sales, market share, shareholder
value and stakeholder value. All of the chapters in this Handbook
offer in-depth analyses of research developments, provide
frameworks for analyzing key issues, and highlight important
unresolved problems in marketing strategy. Collectively, they
provide a deep understanding of and key insights into the
foundations, antecedents and consequences of marketing strategy.

At the start of the 1990s Japan's post war economic success came to
an abrupt end, and the country slid into a decade long recession
from which it has, on many levels, still not recovered. This book
examines the institutional factors in the Japanese system of
government administration that have paralyzed the decision-making
process and prevented the system from accommodating the ever
changing demands on the domestic front and the global political
economy. It argues that the current model defies structural reform
and frustrates the implementation of economic and social policies
that can resolve the problems that have challenged the Japanese for
years.
Excerpts from interviews conducted with Japanese bureaucrats reveal
how their government views the United States, Japan's protector in
the Pacific and its second-largest trading partner. The interviews
are particularly relevant to the economic dilemma that the Japanese
are facing currently due to Japan's dependency on the United
States. They also provide an invaluable insight into why Japan has
yet to integrate into the international community.
This book contends that structural reforms, the essential third
arrow in Abe's 'Abenomics', will not happen. As a result, Abenomics
is merely a combination of reckless monetary policy and ambiguous
fiscal policies which will fail to regenerate Japan's fragile
economy and cut sovereign debt.

An examination of the elements explicit to the Japanese post war
governing system that enable the national ministries to extend
their administrative authority over the political economy. It
argues that the insular model defies structural reform and prevents
the implementation of economic and social policies that can resolve
socio-economic problems.
This book contends that structural reforms, the essential third

Experts discuss the potential of early intervention to transform
outcomes for people with mental disorders. Mental illness
represents one of the largest disease burdens worldwide, yet
treatments have been largely ineffective in improving the quality
of life for millions of affected individuals-in part because
approaches taken have focused on late-stage disorders in adulthood.
This volume shifts the focus by placing the developmental stage of
"youth" at the center of mental health. The contributors challenge
current nosology, explore mechanisms that underlie the emergence of
mental disorders, and propose a framework to guide early
intervention. Offering recommendations for the future, the book
holds that early intervention in youth has the potential to
transform outcomes for people with mental disorders and to
reconfigure the landscape of mental health. The contributors
discuss epidemiology, classification, and diagnostic issues,
including the benefits of clinical staging; the context for
emerging mental disorders, including both biological and
sociocultural processes; biological mechanisms underlying risk for
psychopathology, including aspects of neural circuitry; and
developing and implementing prevention and early intervention,
including assessment and intervention modalities and knowledge
translation in early treatment of schizophrenia. Contributors
