Over the course of the twentieth century, professional economists
have become a feature in the policymaking process and have slowly
changed the way we think about work, governance, and economic
justice. However, they have also been a frustrating, paradoxical,
and in recent years, controversial fixture in American public life.
This book focuses on the emergence and growth of professional
economics in the U.S., examining the challenges early professional
economists faced, which foreshadowed obstacles throughout the
twentieth century. From the founding of the American Economic
Association in 1885 to the depths of the Great Depression, this
volume illustrates why some of the most optimistic and capable
economic minds struggled to help smooth economic transitions and
tame market fluctuations. Drawing on archival research and
secondary sources, the text explores the emergence of professional
economics in the United States and explains how economists came to
be 'irrelevant geniuses'. This book is well suited for those who
study and are interested in American history, the history of
economic thought and policy history.
This volume is devoted to the geographical-or spatial-aspects of
population research in regional science, spanning spatial
demographic methods for population composition and migration to
studies of internal and international migration to investigations
of the role of population in related fields such as climate change
and economic growth. If spatial aspects of economic growth and
development are the flagship of the regional science discipline,
population research is the anchor. People migrate, consume,
produce, and demand services. People are the source and
beneficiaries of national, regional, and local growth and
development. Since the origins of regional science, demographic
research has been at the core of the discipline. Contributions in
this volume are both retrospective and prospective, offering in
their ensemble an authoritative overview of demographic research
within the field of regional science.
Our conception of human personhood deeply impacts our understanding
and practice of community and church. In this rigorous work
Franklin argues that ecclesiology needs to be informed and shaped
by a robust theological anthropology. "This book calls exactly for
what evangelicalism needs in order to reinvent itself: a return to
the incarnation as the foundation for a robust ecclesiology based
on a Christ-centered anthropology. It is my belief that
Christianity will regain its experiential and intellectual
relevance for our time once Christians recover and proclaim its
ancient message that the gospel is all about fulfilling our common
longing for true life by becoming fully human in communion with
God. Franklin's book is an important contribution to this task." ~
Jens Zimmermann, Canada Research Chair in Interpretation, Religion
and Culture, Trinity Western University "Trinitarian love is not
only God's essence but also how God has chosen to relate to human
creatures. This is Patrick Franklin's basis for proposing a
trinitarian anthropology-ecclesiology. Reading Being Human, Being
Church will be catalytic for transformative participation in the
triune love that witnesses to the world in anticipation of the
coming reign of God." ~Amos Yong, Professor of Theology &
Mission, Fuller Theological Seminary "The importance of human
personhood for our understanding of the church and Christian life
has been sadly neglected. Patrick's theological study of high
quality, with its practical relevance, brings this out for us. His
rigorous engagement with theologians both ancient and modern will
be of appeal to students of theology and experienced practioners of
the craft." ~ Dennis Ngien, Professor of Systematic Theology,
Tyndale University College & Seminary and Research Professor of
Theology, Wycliffe College, U of Toronto (both in Toronto, Canada).
Thirty-five-year-old Hank Foster, a former Special Forces soldier
still reeling over the loss of his leg in combat, is recruited into
a clandestine organization dedicated to attacking religious
institutions. Impatient with the movement's slow progress, Hank
subverts the powerful organization and uses their vast network to
perpetrate a hoax he feels will rock the world and push the
Iconoclast organization's agenda into the spotlight.
The hoax succeeds beyond his wildest dreams and sets into motion
a chain of events that bring a real extraterrestrial presence into
the open. Earth is rocked by global catastrophe on a level never
before imagined, and humanity is confronted by the prospect of
alien invasion. Hank discovers a conspiracy as old as time itself.
He learns he is responsible for the calamity facing humanity, and
what's more, he learns he is the one man capable of exposing the
truth that may lead to mankind's salvation.
On its exterior, "Paradigm Shift" engages the reader with a
visual, action-packed, Hollywood-styled blockbuster, but on a
deeper, psychological level, the reader is taken along the hero's
mythic journey to ultimately confront the true nature of
humanity.
When Thomas Jefferson placed "the pursuit of happiness" along with
life and liberty in The Declaration of Independence he was most
likely referring to Aristotle's concept of happiness, or
eudaimonia. Eudaimonia is not about good feelings but rather the
fulfillment of human potentials. Fulfillment is made possible by
virtue; the moderation of desire and emotion by reason. The
Psychology of Happiness is the first book to bring together
psychological, philosophical, and physiological theory and research
in support of Aristotle s view. It examines the similarity between
Aristotle s concept of virtue and modern cognitive theories of
emotion. It discusses the discovery of human potentials, the
development of virtue and its neurological basis, the mistaken idea
that fulfillment is selfish, and several other issues related to
the pursuit of a good human life."

At heart, transportation policy and research are about people:
connecting individuals and the places they live, ensuring
sufficient and equitable access, and facilitating movement. Whether
at the regional, city, or neighborhood scale, the loss of
population presents unique challenges where transport is concerned.
It is not only about preservation of existing access, but possibly
even a question of increased need for connectivity and mobility.
Demographic changes that accompany depopulation--aging for
example-- also impact existing systems, preferences, and needs.

When Jonathan Franklin takes two baby tawny owls back to Eton, he
has no idea how chaotic the following months will be. The birds
show no respect for Etonian routine and tradition. They trash his
room and rule his daily life, and are known throughout the school
as 'Dum' and 'Dee'. Although a keen naturalist, Jonathan struggles
to understand his charges and to find the right food for them; at
first meat and feathers, soon mice and rats. Even so, they nearly
die of malnutrition on two occasions. Frantic, he searches for
natural food. How to keep them alive is a constant worry. He
watches them grow from ugly balls of fluff into beautiful adults,
every change of plumage and behaviour noted. They play truant, they
shock others, and lead Jonathan into hilarious adventures. They
charm his housemaster and everybody who meets them. Best of all is
seeing them flying about over those famous playing fields. All the
time, Jonathan works to train them for eventual return to the wild.
Will that be possible? He is never sure whether he will succeed. Now
updated by the author to tell the end of this extraordinary story,
Two Owls at Eton - very British, very witty, yet always close to
the rawness of the natural world - is a story to delight everyone -
whether they ever trod those playing fields, or have never wished
to set eyes on the place.
Technology has always been important to organizations and a crucial
aspect of their continued development. Organizations that already
relied on the most up-to-date technology and provided
forward-thinking leadership had a smoother transition during the
COVID-19 pandemic, which created turmoil for other organizations
that were lacking in this type of leadership. Leadership that
implements current and future technology is vital to thrive in the
post-pandemic world. Further study on this type of management and
practice is required to ensure businesses are prepared and
knowledgeable. Business Models to Promote Technology, Culture, and
Leadership in Post-COVID-19 Organizations delves into how virtual
technology has evolved to create remote offices and remote teaming
in areas such as health, education, engineering, and other business
solutions. The book also explores culture in a business and how
individuals may interface, communicate, and collaborate in past,
current, and future business models. Covering key topics such as
management, public health, and society, this reference work is
ideal for business owners, managers, human resource professionals,
supervisors, scholars, researchers, academicians, practitioners,
instructors, and students.
