This book provides a cross-national European comparative analysis
of the presence and absence of women on the board of directors of
companies. It asks whether a welfare state regime analysis is
useful at this elite level as a way of understanding employment
practices or whether state policy gives way to more universal and
globalized factors.
In January 1992, the Sixth Workshop on Optimization and Numerical
Analysis was held in the heart of the Mixteco-Zapoteca region, in
the city of Oaxaca, Mexico, a beautiful and culturally rich site in
ancient, colonial and modern Mexican civiliza tion. The Workshop
was organized by the Numerical Analysis Department at the Institute
of Research in Applied Mathematics of the National University of
Mexico in collaboration with the Mathematical Sciences Department
at Rice University, as were the previous ones in 1978, 1979, 1981,
1984 and 1989. As were the third, fourth, and fifth workshops, this
one was supported by a grant from the Mexican National Council for
Science and Technology, and the US National Science Foundation, as
part of the joint Scientific and Technical Cooperation Program
existing between these two countries. The participation of many of
the leading figures in the field resulted in a good representation
of the state of the art in Continuous Optimization, and in an over
view of several topics including Numerical Methods for
Diffusion-Advection PDE problems as well as some Numerical Linear
Algebraic Methods to solve related pro blems. This book collects
some of the papers given at this Workshop."
Since the fall of the Soviet Union, we have witnessed a rapid
transition from communist regimes to more democratic forms of
governments around the world. In most of these situations, the
changes and pre-transition analyses have focused on the areas of
political and economic transformation while paying very little
attention to the impact such dramatic changes have on the people.
This book attempts to analyze some of these human factors as it
applies to Cuba and what impact it will have for the future.
This book offers a timely and comprehensive snapshot of research
and developments in the fields of dynamic systems and control
engineering. Covering a wide range of theoretical and practical
issues, the contributions describes a number of different control
approaches, such as PID control, adaptive control, nonlinear
systems and control, intelligent monitoring and control based on
fuzzy and neural systems, robust control systems, and real time
control, among others. Sensors and actuators, measurement systems,
renewable energy systems, aeronautic and aerospace systems as well
as industrial control and automation, are also comprehensively
covered. Based on the proceedings of the 15th APCA International
Conference on Automatic Control and Soft Computing, held on July
6-8, 2022, in Caparica, Portugal, the book offers a timely and
thoroughly survey of the latest research in the fields of dynamic
systems and automatic control engineering, and a source of
inspiration for researchers and professionals
worldwide. Â
The book constitutes a particularly complete and original
collection of ideas, models, numerical methods and experimental
tools which will prove invaluable in the study of microscale and
nanoscale heat transfer. It should be of interest to research

research or metrology in this field, but also to physicists
concerned with the problems of heat transfer, or teachers requiring
a solid foundation for an undergraduate university course in this
area.

This book examines the international trends and associated
developments in gender equality policy including corporate
governance such as gender quotas. International comparative
analysis is combined with detailed analysis of eight European
countries with different policy regimes and trajectories.

Written in a clear, non-technical manner, Introduction to Video
Production focuses on the fundamental principles and aesthetics of
video production and the technologies used in both studio and field
environments. Ronald J. Compesi and Jaime S. Gomez cover each
aspect of the process step by step, from preproduction to lighting,
sound, directing, editing, graphics, and distribution. Taking into
account the changes in workflow and production planning and
distribution brought on by the advent of digital media, this second
edition has been updated throughout to account for the increasing
popularity of DSLR cameras, online distribution, the rise of
portable cameras and mobile video, and much more. Key features
include: a thorough overview of video production in studio and
field environments without being overly technical, allowing
students to get the "big picture" of production; coverage of new
digital production, recording, and editing technologies; over 300
photos and line art illustrating aesthetic elements, technical
issues, and production planning; key words identified in boldface
throughout the text and reinforced in a comprehensive glossary of
terms.

Fluid mechanics provides the theoretical foundation for hydraulics,
which focuses on the engineering uses of fluid properties. In fluid
power, hydraulics is used for the generation, control, and
transmission of power by the use of pressurised liquids. This book
discusses hydraulic mechanical applications and roles in
engineering. Topics include axial piston pumps; turbulence
structure and related mass transfer mechanisms in vegetated canopy
open-channel flows; the hydraulic mechanism features of jet-curtain
operation; experimental design and calibration of grid gates used
in open channels; surface runoff simulation models; and
applications of static and dynamic infinite elements to hydraulic
engineering problems involving infinite domains.
