From the thousands of pieces of Late Roman small change discovered trodden into beaten earth floors and dropped into wells to the hoards of 19th-century A.D. silver French francs discovered beneath modern houses, many post-classical coins have been discovered during excavations at the Agora. This booklet presents Byzantine, Frankish, Venetian, Turkish, and modern Greek coins, with many pieces illustrated with clear black and white photos of both obverse and reverse.

Over 75,000 coins have been found during excavations at the Agora, many minted in the city but others brought from Athens's far-flung commercial contacts. In addition to the mostly bronze and copper coins themselves, a building that may have served as the Athenian mint is described in this booklet. After describing the physical techniques of production, the author takes a chronological approach and includes numerous black and white photographs, making this concise guide a useful aid to the identification of lower-value Greek and Roman coinage.

Die Bedeutung von Popularen Kulturen sowie von Popkulturen kann nicht ohne einen Bezug auf Performativitat und Medialitat begriffen werden. Mit diesem Bezug bilden sich zugleich Kulturen des Performativen und Medialen heraus. Dieses Thema ist bisher im Kontext der Forschungen zur Performativitat von Kulturen nicht systematisch erforscht worden. Vor diesem Hintergrund geht es um die Beantwortung der Frage, inwieweit sich in Popularen Kulturen sowie Popkulturen Aspekte, Prozesse, Transformationen, Manifestationen von Medialitat und/oder Performativitat niederschlagen, beobachten und beschreiben lassen, wie Populare Kulturen sowie Popkulturen mit formen bzw. allererst durch Erscheinungen Popularer Kulturen sowie Popkulturen eine spezifische Bedeutung erhalten. Die Aufgabe besteht darin, nicht einfach bereits etablierte Konzepte zur Performativitat und
Medialitat in ihrer Tragkraft am Beispiel Popularer Kulturen und Popkulturen zu veranschaulichen, sondern im Gegenteil, gegenstandsorientierte Konzepte von Performativitat und Medialitat durch ein sowie Popkulturen close reading Popularer Kulturen zu erarbeiten interdisziplinar und intermedial.

Was bisher im medienkritischen Diskurs fehlt, ist ein Reader, der klassische Positionen der Medienkritik dokumentiert und kommentiert, also eine Sammlung von Grundlagentexten der Klassiker dieser Disziplin. Um der Formvielfalt der Medienkritik gerecht zu werden, darf sich eine Auseinandersetzung mit ihr nicht auf Rekonstruktion bzw. Dokumentation beschranken, sondern muss diese mit aktuellen Perspektiven verbinden, also zeigen, wie klassische Argumentationslinien von aktuellen Ansatzen aufgegriffen, kritisiert oder weiterentwickelt werden.
