Innovation and Structural Change in Post-Socialist Countries: A Quantitative Approach (Hardcover, 1999 ed.): David A. Dyker, S.... Innovation and Structural Change in Post-Socialist Countries: A Quantitative Approach (Hardcover, 1999 ed.)
David A. Dyker, S. Radosevic
R7,883 Discovery Miles 78 830 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

This book uses a range of S&T and structural indicators to analyse the transfonnation process, in particular the transfonnation of science, technology and industry, in the fonner communist countries. The book originates from a sense of the tremendous need for quantitative indicators for assessing trends and perfonnance in the post-socialist economies. S&T systems in the region have passed through the first phase of rapid deterioration, or as it is called by some analysts 'implosion'. After ten years of transfonnation we are witnessing a process of increasing differentiation of these countries in tenns of general patterns of growth and structural change, as well as specific lines of restructuring in their S&T systems. The question of sources of growth - or indeed of stagnation - is an increasingly urgent one, from both the policy and academic perspectives. In that context there is a pressing need for in-depth assessment of restructuring patterns in science, technology and industry in the region, as a basis for understanding how restructuring in S&T is linked to industrial restructuring, and to general economic and social transfonnation. As the contributions to this volume show, there is now a critical mass of quantitative data across the post-socialist countries which deserves to be studied more thoroughly in a comparative manner. The changes of the last ten years have produced varying patterns of adjustment which are now clearly visible in S&T and structural indicators.

International Industrial Networks and Industrial Restructuring in Central and Eastern Europe (Hardcover, 2004 ed.): S.... International Industrial Networks and Industrial Restructuring in Central and Eastern Europe (Hardcover, 2004 ed.)
S. Radosevic, Bert M. Sadowski
R2,795 Discovery Miles 27 950 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

International Industrial Networks and Industrial Restructuring in Central and Eastern Europe analyses the role of international industrial networks in industrial restructuring and corporate growth in central Europe, Russia and Ukraine. It shows that two distinct patterns of international industrial integration - domestic vs. foreign led modernisations - have developed in these two regions which have significant effects on patterns of growth and integration of these economies. International Industrial Networks and Industrial Restructuring in Central and Eastern Europe is based on a number of industry and firm case studies which are analysed and interpreted within the current international business and political economy literature.

The publication provides valuable insights to managers and policy-makers who are interested in understanding different strategic options for business activity in Central and East European countries. For the academic reader, it offers a new perspective on international, industrial networks in which theories on strategic management and on industry restructuring and corporate growth are merged into a new view of growth and transformation process.

The Emerging Industrial Structure of the Wider Europe (Paperback): F. McGowan, S. Radosevic, Nick Von Tunzelman The Emerging Industrial Structure of the Wider Europe (Paperback)
F. McGowan, S. Radosevic, Nick Von Tunzelman
R1,581 Discovery Miles 15 810 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The latest wave of European Union expansion has brought many central and Eastern European countries into the fold. Unlike previous enlargements however, the latest new members are also undergoing radical economic reform as they reintegrate into international economy. This book reviews the changing industrial architecture of the new wider Europe from a "network" perspective, highlighting the importance of the linkages that develop between firms and governments in the new entrants and the EU. It does so on the basis of a series of case studies covering countries, sectors, and firms as well as providing an analysis of the underlying dynamics of production and policy integration. The impressive group of authors go beyond tradition analyses by adopting an interdisciplinary approach drawing on the insights of economics and politics. As such, the book will appeal to students of the EU and enlargement, as well as those with an interest in foreign investment and transition economies.
