The first edition of this book was published in 1974 to fulfil a long-felt need for a theoretically based introductory textbook on accounting for students. In this, the thirteenth edition, the contents have been updated with the latest developments in accounting in order to comply with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

The main changes in this addition are incorporating the change in the VAT rate and introducing a section on the introduction to management accounting and financial management.
