Reliable and design softwares are easily available so now is the
time to concentrate on producing not only safe designs but also to
produce economical designs. Standard softwares are available. But
to use them confidently design engineers should have basic
knowledge of optimization such as mathematical formulation and
suitability and limitation of the software, design engineers must
undergo a basic course in optimization.
The book deals entire surveying theory and practice to be studied
by civil engineering students. It covers all basic methods of
surveying like chain surveying, compass surveying, plane table
surveying , theodolite surveying and explain use of levels,
contouring etc. It also covers modern methods of leveling like
stations, photogram metric surveying and remote sensing,
astronomical survey is also covered. Application of surveying to
engineering projects, calculation of areas and volumes of earthwork
involved in the field work are explained and illustrated with
problems. New in this edition: Apart from making some corrections
and revisions at some places one new chapter ""Photogrammetry"" has
been added to this edition. Diploma and degree students of civil
engineering, architecture and mining will find this book useful.
Though determining the plastic modulus of a section, assuming the
section consists of rectangular parts, is within the reach of a
design engineer, the Indian Rolled Steel Sections, which consists
of sloping flanges, fillets at junctions and rounded edges, require
slightly more specialized knowledge. The authors have considered
all the complexities in the shapes of Rolled Steel Sections and
have determined the Plastic Modulus of Steel Sections for I-beams,
Channels, Tee-sections, Equal and Unequal Angle sections, I-beams
with cover plates on both flanges, I-beams with Channel section on
the upper compression flange (for Gantry Girders), and Double
channel laced or battened columns. The buckling class of the
sections in bending and axial compression are also provided. Useful
information about the properties of Indian Standard straps, strips
and sheets is tabulated for ready references for design engineers.
The book also provides ready references of shear strength and
tensile strength of Grade M4.6 bolts of different sizes and minimum
end distances and pitches in their connections. Fillet weld
strength per mm length is also given. Finally, important formulae
to be used in Working Stress Method and Limit State Method are
provided.
This new, fifth edition of an extremely popular textbook continues
in its tradition of presenting design procedures using a simple
language, neat sketches and abundant solved problems. This book is
aimed at training the students in using IS:800-2007 for designing
steel structures using the limit state method. The author has
explained the provisions of code in a simple language and
illustrated the design procedure with a large number of worked out
problems. What is new in this edition? Two new chapters, Plastic
Analysis of Beams and Frames, and Design of Beam Columns Limit
state method and working stress method compared by the aid of
solving the same problems using both methods. Additional solved
problems and rewritten text make the publication more
understandable.
This book is meant for the second course on Surveying and
Levelling. It covers all the advanced methods ofsurveying including
remote sensing and GIS. New in this edition A new chapter
""Photogrammetry"" has been added in the present edition to make
the book up to date and more beneficial for the students. Diploma
and degree students of civil engineering, architecture and mining
will find this book useful. Salient Feature: Covers theory with
simple and precise explanations. Text illustrated with generous use
of diagrams, latest photographs and tables. Provides a number of
solved problems for clear understanding of the subject.
The book is intended to help students of civil engineering and
practicing civil engineers to understand the theoretical and
practical aspects of concrete technology. It includes the latest
specifications and regulations of Indian Standards (IS) for
concrete construction and mix design. The book includes 17 chapters
that provide an introduction to concrete structures, the properties
and requirements of constituents of concrete, including the role of
various admixtures to get special properties. The properties of
fresh concrete and hardened concrete and the method of testing them
as per IS codes is explained in detail. The concrete mix design
procedure as per latest IS provisions of IS 10262:2009 is explained
and illustrated with examples for normal concrete as well as for
fly ash mixed concrete. Concreting in challenging environments,
quality control and repairs and rehabilitation of concrete
structures are also thoroughly discussed. Key features: Covers the
theory with simple and precise explanations. The text is
illustrated with diagrams, photographs and tables. Incorporates mix
design procedure as per IS 10262:2009. Quality control of concrete
is systematically explained. The repair and rehabilitation of
concrete structures is illustrated in detail.
The book incorporates all major topics in civil engineering. Each
topic is presented briefly followed by an exhaustive set of
objective questions. It will benefit BE/B Tech undergraduate
students and practising engineers. Key features: Coverage ranges
from the basic to the advanced. 3000+ objective type questions.
Brief descriptions of important theorems. Derivations of important
functions, relationships and equations. Diagrams and tables to
illustrate important concepts.
Until recently the working stress method was used for the design of
steel structures. This has now been replaced by the more rational
limit state method. The Indian national code IS:800 for the design
of steel structures was revised in 2007 to incorporate the limit
state method. This book is aimed at training the students in using
IS: 800-2007 for designing steel structures using the limit state
method. The author explains the provisions of code in simple
language and illustrated the design procedure with a large number
of problems.
This book deals with good ventilation, thermal comfort, and
acoustic requirements when planning a building. As well as
satisfying minimum standards and the regulations of local
authorities, economics and future expansions are considered. The
book discusses building drawings created through computer aided
design. To understand the commands of AutoCAD and use them, the
sequential procedure and steps involved while drawing plan,
elevation and section are stored as screen captures and collection
of these screen shots are placed in a CD which is enclosed with
this book. The practising engineer will also find it as an
excellent reference book.
Construction materials an important subject for civil engineering
students. This book is divided in six chapters - Cement, Coarse and
Fine Aggregates, Mortar, Cement Concrete, Paints, Varnish and
Distemper, and Miscellaneous and Modern Building Materials. At the
end of each chapter, a set of fill-in-the-blanks type and
descriptive type questions with answers are given. Model question
papers are also provides.
This textbook covers all the basic methods of surveying and
levelling, the applications of surveying and levelling, and the
calculation of areas and volumes of earth work involved in field
work. Minor instruments used in the field are also explained. A
number of solved problems are included to aid understanding. This
book will be of value to diploma and degree students in civil
engineering, architecture and mining.
Preliminary chapters are supposed to give suitable transition from
structural analysis - classical methods studied by students in
their compulsory courses. Then structure approach to matrix method
is dealt so that the students get clear picture of matrix approach.
Finally, stiffness matrix method - element approach is explained
and illustrated so that before developing computer program student
will understand what to instruct computer. Finally, a chapter an
computer programming preliminaries which will help to develop the
computer program and cautious the way of program develop by the
others is included.
