From the 40th annual conference of the International Society on Oxygen Transport to Tissue (ISOTT), held in Bruges, Belgium in August 2012, this volume covers aspects of clinical applications, muscle oxygenation, cancer, measurement technologies, oxygen transport modelling and Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS), cell metabolism and brain oxygenation. Each topic was presented by one or two invited speakers, and a series of contributed talks.
Based on the 38th annual conference of the International Society on Oxygen Transport to Tissue (ISOTT), held in Ascona, Switzerland in July 2010, this volume covers all aspects of oxygen transport from air to the cells, as well as looking at organs and organism, instrumentation, and methods to sense oxygen and clinical evidence.

This book constitutes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 5th International Joint Conference on Biomedical Engineering Systems and Technologies, BIOSTEC 2012, held in Vilamoura, Portugal, in February 2012. The 26 revised full papers presented together with one invited lecture were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 522 submissions. The papers cover a wide range of topics and are organized in four general topical sections on biomedical electronics and devices; bioinformatics models, methods and algorithms; bio-inspired systems and signal processing; health informatics.
Covering all aspects of oxygen delivery to tissue, including blood flow and its regulation as well as oxygen metabolism, this book is multidisciplinary and designed to bring together experts and students from a range of research fields including biochemical engineering, physiology, microcirculation, and hematology.
Exact and Approximate Modelling of Linear Systems: A Behavioural Approach elegantly introduces the behavioural approach to mathematical modelling, an approach that requires models to be viewed as sets of possible outcomes rather than to be a priori bound to particular representations. The authors discuss exact and approximate fitting of data by linear, bilinear, and quadratic static models and linear dynamic models, a formulation that enables readers to select the most suitable representation for a particular purpose. This book presents exact subspace-type and approximate optimization-based identification methods, as well as representation-free problem formulations, an overview of solution approaches, and software implementation. Readers will find an exposition of a wide variety of modelling problems starting from observed data. The presented theory leads to algorithms that are implemented in C language and in MATLAB.
