A stock (or share) market deals mainly in corporate securities. The
securities are chiefly in the form of equity shares and debentures.
The function of the stock market is two-fold: to arrange for the
raising of new capital [primary market function] and to provide
liquidity to existing securities [secondary market function]. There
are 24 recognised stock exchanges in India, including the Over the
Counter Exchange of India (OTCEI) for small and new companies, the
old established Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) and the National Stock
Exchange (NSE) that was set up as a model exchange to provide
nation-wide services to investors. As at end-March 2010, 4977
companies were listed on the BSE, which is the largest exchange in
the country. The number of securities available for trading under
the equities segment at NSE as on April 30, 2010 was 1872.
Associated with the NSE are the National Securities Depository Ltd.
(NSDL) and the National Securities Clearing Corporation Ltd.
(NSCCL). The NSDL acts as a registrar for dematerialised securities
and NSCCL as a clearing house. This book provides a comprehensive
account of the working of stock market in India, focusing on
reforms introduced during the post-liberalisation (1991 onwards)
period. Besides, it traces recent trends in the secondary market
and offers empirical evidence of level of efficiency and degree of
volatility in the Indian stock market.
The prosthetic management of edentulous patient has long been major
challenge for dentistry .For well over a century complete maxillary
and mandibular dentures have been a traditional standard of care.
However, most patient reports significantly more problems adapting
to their mandibular denture due to lack of comfort (they suffer
from an increase in pain and soreness), retention, stability and to
the inability to chew and eat. There are several alternatives for
edentulous mandibular arches other than extraction of teeth and
placement of conventional denture. Dental implantology is currently
a valuable treatment modality in the prosthetic treatment of
edentulous patients.
Denture liners are valuable aid for the management of edentulous
patients with sharp bony spicules, deep undercuts and irritated
mucosa. However, the main problem with the silicone based denture
liners is that they bond mechanically with the denture base leading
to the micro leakage and delimination of denture liners. Here a
method has been described for choosing a chemical etchant that
improves the bond strength and at the same time produces least
decrease in flexural strength of denture bas
It has been well documented that the investment strategies
appropriate for an efficient stock market would be significantly
different from the strategies appropriate for an inefficient
market. The market, in practice, does not have a reputation of
being an efficient and reliable price-setter. This book is about
how effective the Indian stock market is in setting prices which
reflect the worth of the securities traded. The Indian stock market
has been attracting considerable attention in recent years,
especially after the liberalisation of the economy in the early
1990s. Wide ranging financial reform measures have been implemented
since then, to make the financial system more efficient. This work
used the market index data of the BSE and the NSE, as well as the
individual share price data of 57 major shares. The runs test, the
serial correlation test, and the variance ratio test were used to
test the efficiency of India's stock market. With its comprehensive
literature review and wide-ranging analysis, this work will be
indispensable for students of stock markets and professionals (in
business, finance or capital market), and for anyone wishing to
follow stock markets in India.
