Eccentric scientist John Hammond plans to open a theme park consisting of live dinosaurs, genetically engineered from DNA found in a preserved prehistoric mosquito. Archaeologists Alan Grant and Ellie Sattler are invited to view the park, along with chaos theory expert Ian Malcolm, only to find themselves being hunted when the dinosaurs break free.

Four years on from the events at Jurassic Park on the island of Isla Nubar, dinosaurs have been bred on the neighbouring site of Isla Sorna. The park's founder, John Hammond, sends in chaos theoretician Ian Malcolm to investigate.
