Commodified and Criminalized examines the centrality of sport to
discussions of racial ideologies and racist practices in the 21st
century. It disputes familiar refrains of racial progress, arguing
that athletes sit in a contradictory position masked by the logics
of new racism and dominant white racial frames. Contributors
discuss athletes ranging from Tiger Woods and Serena Williams to
Freddy Adu and Shani Davis. Through dynamic case studies,
Commodified and Criminalized unpacks the conversation between black
athletes and colorblind discourse, while challenging the
assumptions of contemporary sports culture. The contributors in
this provocative collection push the conversation beyond the
playing field and beyond the racial landscape of sports culture to
explore the connections between sports representations and a
broader history of racialized violence.
A revised and expanded paperback edition of We Hope This Reaches
You in Time by Samantha King Holmes and r.h. Sin with all-new bonus

Maybe all the answers to all your questions are living within you,
waiting to be discovered after finding more of yourself. Don't Tell
Me Not to Ask Why, Samantha King Holmes's second solo poetry
collection following her bestselling Born to Love, Cursed to Feel,
is a mirror that reflects our honest truths. Holmes's poems are
like little stories, hooking readers while navigating issues like
body image, family relationships, loneliness, failed relationships,
and finding belonging. Don't Tell Me Not to Ask Why is a call to
introspection, a demand for honesty, and an affirmation of second
chances.
For fans of r.h. Sin comes a new voice, Samantha King's raw,
relatable poetry both celebrates love and mourns the human "curse
to feel." Her verse transports readers to the most private reaches
of love and longing. Born to Love, Cursed to Feel is about love-the
good, the bad, and the confusing. It touches on morals and how when
emotions are involved it's not as black and white. The poetry is
frequently written in a narrative manner that evocatively pulls you
in and makes you feel. This book is about falling in love, bad
decisions, and ultimately growth. The essence of it all is to show
that no matter how far one falls all the mistakes don't have to be
what defines them. * Samantha King has 83,000 Instagram followers *

Literature on the ethics and politics of food and that on
human-animal relationships have infrequently converged.
Representing an initial step toward bridging this divide, Messy
Eating features interviews with thirteen prominent and emerging
scholars about the connections between their academic work and
their approach to consuming animals as food. The collection
explores how authors working across a range of
perspectives-postcolonial, Indigenous, black, queer, trans,
feminist, disability, poststructuralist, posthumanist, and
multispecies-weave their theoretical and political orientations
with daily, intimate, and visceral practices of food consumption,
preparation, and ingestion. Each chapter introduces a scholar for
whom the tangled, contradictory character of human-animal relations
raises difficult questions about what they eat. Representing a
departure from canonical animal rights literature, most authors
featured in the collection do not make their food politics or
identities explicit in their published work. While some
interviewees practice vegetarianism or veganism, and almost all
decry the role of industrialized animal agriculture in the
environmental crisis, the contributors tend to reject a priori
ethical codes and politics grounded in purity, surety, or
simplicity. Remarkably free of proscriptions, but attentive to the
Eurocentric tendencies of posthumanist animal studies, Messy Eating
reveals how dietary habits are unpredictable and dynamic, shaped
but not determined by life histories, educational trajectories,
disciplinary homes, activist experiences, and intimate
relationships. These accessible and engaging conversations offer
rare and often surprising insights into pressing social issues
through a focus on the mundane-and messy- interactions that
constitute the professional, the political, and the personal.
