Textos constitutivos de la Orden de las carmelitas descalzas.
En 1562 Teresa de Jesus fundo el convento de San Jose de Avila, el
primero de las carmelitas y, a instancias de Francisco de Soto y
Salazar, su confesor, comenzo a escribir el Libro de mi vida,
influido por sus lecturas de libros de caballeria y comparado por
algunos con las Confesiones de san Agustin. Aqui expone sus
preocupaciones humanas y religiosas, sus trabajos y experiencias
anteriores. La jerarquia eclesiastica denuncio el libro a la
Inquisicion y pretendio deportar a su autora a Hispanoamerica, pero
fray Luis de Leon, san Juan de la Cruz y el teologo fray Domingo
Banez lograron que el castigo se redujera y fuese confinada en
Toledo. Esta actividad frenetica contrasta con los textos de esta
antologia, mucho mas domesticos y, en ocasiones, extremadamente
personales.
El Castiilo interior o Las moradas son el principal texto mistico
de Teresa, describen un recorrido por los entresijos del espiritu
en busca de la iluminacion.
