Social Justice Pedagogies - Multidisciplinary Practices and Approaches: Katrina Sark Social Justice Pedagogies - Multidisciplinary Practices and Approaches
Katrina Sark
R1,831 Discovery Miles 18 310 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Social Justice Pedagogies provides a diverse and wide perspective into making education more robust and useful in light of global injustices and new challenges posed by new media and communication practices, media manipulation, right-wing populism, climate crisis, and intersectional discriminations. Meant to inspire readers to see learning and teaching from a wider perspective of justice, inclusion, equity, and creativity, it argues that relational and mindful approaches to teaching and learning in specific contexts, settings, and place-based experiences are essential in how we determine the value of education. The book draws on contributions from scholars and experts who incorporate social justice into their teaching practices in different disciplines in universities across Canada, the US, and Europe. Social Justice Pedagogies uniquely presents a wide interdisciplinary perspective on social justice in education practices in order to speak to the ways in which we all want to make our research, our classrooms, and our institutions more just. It argues that pedagogy, and specifically teaching and learning, constitutes a process of building relationships between people and knowledge by fostering a learning community.

MACON TO MANASSAS (Hardcover): Edward DeVries, Walter Kevin Sark, John Wayne Dobson MACON TO MANASSAS (Hardcover)
Edward DeVries, Walter Kevin Sark, John Wayne Dobson
R1,216 Discovery Miles 12 160 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Macon to Manassas a novel by John Wayne Dobson and Walter Kevin Sark. It was edited by Edward DeVries. Kevin and John were born in and are life-long residents of Macon, Georgia. Both have known The Lord Jesus Christ as personal Savior for much of their lives. They are close friends and veteran re-enactors of The 16th GA, Co. G Infantry Re-enactment Company, "The Jackson Rifles." The book was a 20-year labor of love dedicated to the Confederate companies that were raised in the authors' native Macon. 23 Confederate combat units were raised during the course of the War from Macon. At War's end, there were not enough survivors to muster 7 companies. With so many men from Macon giving their lives for "The Cause," the authors wanted to write a novel that would not only be good reading, but also tell the story of the brave and honorable men from Macon. Those who survived the war, and those who did not. www.dixieheritage.net

Physics and Technology of Amorphous-Crystalline Heterostructure Silicon Solar Cells (Hardcover, 2011): Wilfried G. J. H. M. van... Physics and Technology of Amorphous-Crystalline Heterostructure Silicon Solar Cells (Hardcover, 2011)
Wilfried G. J. H. M. van Sark, Lars Korte, Francesco Roca
R5,463 Discovery Miles 54 630 Ships in 18 - 22 working days

Today's solar cell multi-GW market is dominated by crystalline silicon (c-Si) wafer technology, however new cell concepts are entering the market. One very promising solar cell design to answer these needs is the silicon hetero-junction solar cell, of which the emitter and back surface field are basically produced by a low temperature growth of ultra-thin layers of amorphous silicon. In this design, amorphous silicon (a-Si: H) constitutes both emitter" and base-contact/back surface field" on both sides of a thin crystalline silicon wafer-base (c-Si) where the electrons and holes are photogenerated; at the same time, a-Si: H passivates the c-Si surface. Recently, cell efficiencies above 23% have been demonstrated for such solar cells.

In this book, the editors present an overview of the state-of-the-art in physics and technology of amorphous-crystalline heterostructure silicon solar cells. The heterojunction concept is introduced, processes and resulting properties of the materials used in the cell andtheir heterointerfaces are discussed and characterization techniques and simulation tools are presented.

Susan Ingram, Katrina Sark; Series edited by Susan Ingram
R869 Discovery Miles 8 690 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Since becoming the capital of reunited Germany, Berlin has had a dose of global money and international style added to its already impressive cultural veneer. Once home to emperors and dictators, peddlers and spies, it is now a fashion showplace that attracts the young and hip. Moving beyond descriptions of Berlin's fashion industry and its ready-to-wear clothing, "Berliner Chic" charts the turbulent stories of entrepreneurially-savvy manufacturers and cultural workers striving to establish their city as a fashion capital, and being repeatedly interrupted by politics, ideology, and war. There are many stories to tell about Berlin's fashion industry and "Berliner Chic" tells them all with considerable expertise.

Flavia Alice Mameli, Franziska Polleter, Mathilda Rosengren, Josefine Sarkez-Knudsen
R883 Discovery Miles 8 830 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

In the past years, the transiency of European city-making and dwelling has become increasingly hard to disregard. This urban flux calls for a methodological rethinking for those professionals, social and natural scientists, artists, and activists, with an interest in the processes of remaking and reclaiming urban space. With a practical and empirical emphasis, this anthology brings forth a variety of perspectives on urban appropriation strategies, their relation to public space-making, and their implications for future city development, exploring how ideas and practices of appropriation inform and relate to cultural narratives, politico-historical occasions as well as socio-ecological expressions.
