Ever wonder how to handle the tough ethical issues we face? Such
as: Should I attend a same-sex wedding? If two people love each
other, why shouldn't they express that love through sex? How can
the church support single people seeking to live a godly life?
Should divorcees remarry in church? These four accessible,
practical guides on sex and marriage will equip both new and mature
Christians to think through the issues in the light of the Bible
and theology. They offer help to Christians facing these issues
themselves and for ministers as they provide guidance. Each guide
(also available separately in print or as an e-book) has a 'Go
Deeper' section listing resources for further reference. Look out
for the other guides on topics such as abortion, euthanasia, wealth
and poverty. In a world of increasing ethical complexity this is an
invaluable down-to-earth practical resource for Christians. Sean
Doherty has produced a much-needed accessible introduction to a
series of controversial subjects in which he confronts tough
questions based on candour, common sense and personal experience.
It will be widely welcomed. - Dr Don Horrocks, Head of Public
Policy, Evangelical Alliance

Only Way Is Ethics is an accessible, practical series of guides
designed to equip both new and mature Christians to think through
important and current ethical issues in the light of the Bible and
theology. It offers help to Christians facing these issues
themselves and for ministers as they provide guidance. Each guide
(also available separately in print or as an e-book) has a 'Go
Deeper' section listing resources for further reference. Sean
Doherty's new introduction to sexual ethics is firmly grounded in
solid biblical scholarship and shows clearly and concisely not only
what the Bible teaches about sexuality, marriage, singleness and
divorce, but why this teaching makes sense in terms of the nature
of God and his desire that men and women should flourish and find
fulfilment. It is also firmly connected to the realities of the
contemporary world and full of practical wisdom. This is an
important and timely book that deserves to be widely read. Buy it
and give it away to your friends! - Dr Martin Davie, Tutor in
Doctrine, Wycliffe Hall, Oxford; author of A Guide to the Church of
England. QUILTBAG: Jesus and sexuality sets out the biblical and
theological basis for the Christian view that sex is for marriage
only, and that marriage is the union of a woman and a man. Written
from within Sean's own experience of same-sex orientation, this
guide is accessible and personal.

Doherty has provided us with a remarkable resource. It is
remarkable, first, because it is deeply rooted in his own
experience and reflection as someone who has experienced same-sex
attraction. But it is also remarkable for the way it is fully
engaged in contemporary research and discussion. Sean manages to
connect and integrate his own experience with the best thinking in
this area. Finally, Sean offers an account that is remarkably
accessible and which will be of help to a wide range of people. It
is one of the best resources out there. Revd Dr Ian Paul,
theologian, author, and blogger at Psephizo.com In Living Out My
Story , Sean tells us his own story of same-sex attraction which he
uses to illuminate his discussion of homosexuality, same-sex
marriage and the church. He shows how churches can provide a loving
welcome and acceptance of gay people whilst being faithful to
Jesus's teaching about sex.

people are great on experience, some great on the Bible and
theology; here is a book that is great on both. Sean's own

what "abundant life" means. - The Right Revd Keith Sinclair, Bishop
of Birkenhead Sexual Singleness explores why singleness is hard,
yet can be deeply fulfilling - even better than marriage - and
needs to be valued much more highly by the church. Drawing on his
own experience and that of others, he offers practical suggestions
for how churches can nurture and support single people.

and incisive, Sean Doherty's journey through ethics doesn't simply
tell us what to think but rather how to think well, and biblically,
in a world of sexual confusion. - Glynn Harrison MD FRCPsych,

You Love Me delves into divorce and re-marriage in the light of the
Old Testament and the teachings of Jesus and St Paul. It shows that
churches and their leaders can be places of welcome and support for
all, whilst challenging readers to be faithful to Jesus's teaching
about marriage in today's world.
Tools are developing rapidly to aid public agencies and consultants
with the management of land-use and transportation. Ever more
powerful computers promise new generations of simulation models
that allow novel investment strategies and public policies to be
"tried on for size" before they are introduced. But for these
models to reach their full potential, they must represent human
behaviour in a realistic way. This book examines the behavioural
foundations, often simplistic, that have limited land-use and
transportation models in the past, and recommends alternative
assumptions, frameworks and methods. At the heart of these are ways
to measure and represent the processes of decision-making that lead
to the organisation of human activities in time and space. All the
main urban decision-makers are involved, including individuals,
households, property developers, owners of shops and leisure
facilities, employers, and public officials. The focus ranges from
daily decisions of households concerning what to do, where and when
to do it, and by what travel mode, to longer term decisions
concerning residential choice, vehicle holdings or land consumption
by housing and business entities. Collectively, these intentional
micro-level behaviours culminate in aggregate flows of traffic and
urban growth that may be unintended and contrary to public policy.
The book is an essential guide to these behavioural foundations for
anyone evaluating the environmental sustainability, healthiness and
equitability of access to activities and services in city regions.

In the wake of the economic crisis, few questions are more pressing
than those around the ethics of finance and economics. Theology and
Economic Ethics seeks to expand the self-critical resources of
contemporary theological economic ethics by bringing the method of
a pre-modern thinker, Martin Luther (1483-1546), into interaction
with that of a modern contribution to social ethics, the Swiss
theologian Arthur Rich (1910-92). The work is undertaken through a
close engagement with a selected publication of Luther (his 1519/20
Grosser Sermon von dem Wucher) and of Rich (his masterwork,
Wirtschaftsethik, published in two volumes in 1984 and 1990
respectively). It is the first substantial treatment in English of
Rich's magnum opus. Sean Doherty introduces Luther's sermon on
usury, situates it in its context, then provides a commentary on
this work, discussing how Luther brings key theological motifs to
bear on a particular economic question. The study proceeds with a
sketch of Arthur Rich's life and work, and presents Rich's method
as set out in Wirtschaftsethik. Doherty illuminates Rich's
understanding of ethics, his approach to Scripture, and his
adoption of the thought of Max Weber and John Rawls. Bringing
insights from the study of Luther to bear in an analysis of Rich's
method, Doherty questions some of Rich's assumptions, and notes
ways in which a more self-critical approach could have made his
project more successful. Finally, the book makes tentative
suggestions as to the wider applicability of these findings for a
Christian approach to economic ethics.
Golden Daze tells the story of Australian surfing one year at a
time through the lives of our greatest surfers. The book takes a
deep dive into a significant year of their surfing lives. Years
when they won, years when they lost. Years where their surfing and
their surfboards changed the game. Grommet years when the days
never ended. Years where they surfed up the coast, down the coast
and globetrotted into the great unknown. Years when both surfing
and society changed. Years when they made high art, experienced
spiritual awakenings or were just tubed out of their minds. Even
years where they survived the embrace of a great white shark. Part
journal, part biography, part surf culture memoir, in Golden Daze,
world renowned surf writer and bestselling author Sean Doherty
gives a fascinating insight into what makes Australian surfing
tick. Surfing Australia's Hall of Fame recognises the nation's most
influential and iconic surfers. Every year the current members of
the Hall of Fame vote to induct a new surfer. You will find all of
these surfers, from Peter Troy to Tyler Wright in Golden Daze.
