The motivation for this collection comes from the wide-ranging research of the distinguished mathematician, Antonio Campillo, in these and related fields. Besides his influence in the mathematical community stemming from his research, Campillo has also endeavored to promote mathematics and mathematicians' networking everywhere, especially in Spain, Latin America and Europe. Because of his impressive achievements throughout his career, we dedicate this book to Campillo in honor of his 65th birthday. This is the second volume of the proceedings of the third European Congress of Mathematics. Volume I presents the speeches delivered at the Congress, the list of lectures, and short summaries of the achievements of the prize winners as well as papers by plenary and parallel speakers. The second volume collects articles by prize winners and speakers of the mini-symposia.
This two-volume set thus gives an overview of the state of the art in many fields of mathematics and is therefore of interest to every professional mathematician.

The Third European Congress of Mathematics (3ecm) took place from July 10th to July 14th, 2000 in Barcelona. It was organised by the Societat Catalana de Matematiques (Catalan Mathematical Society), under the auspices of the Euro- pean Mathematical Society (EMS). As foreseen by the EMS and the International Mathematical Union, this Congress was a major event in World Mathematical Year 2000. In addition to reviewing outstanding research achievements, important aspects of the life of European mathematics were discussed. Mathematics is undergoing a period of rapid changes. Effective computation and applications in science and technology go ever more hand in hand with con- ceptual developments. It was one of the aims of 3ecm to reflect this mutual enrich- ment, while steering present and future trends of mathematical sciences. In fact, the motto of the Congress, Shaping the 21st Century, was meant to capture these views. Nearly 1400 people from 87 countries gathered together in the Palau de Con- gressos of Barcelona in order to take part in the activities of the 3ecm scientific programme: Nine plenary lectures, thirty invited lectures in parallel sessions, lec- tures given by EMS prize winners, ten mini-symposia on special topics, seven round tables, poster sessions, presentations of mathematical software and video exhibitions. Twenty events were satellites of 3ecm in various countries.

The intention of this collection agrees with the purposes of the homonymous mini-symposium (MS) at ICIAM-2019, which were to overview the essentials of geometric calculus (GC) formalism, to report on state-of-the-art applications showcasing its advantages and to explore the bearing of GC in novel approaches to deep learning. The first three contributions, which correspond to lectures at the MS, offer perspectives on recent advances in the application GC in the areas of robotics, molecular geometry, and medical imaging. The next three, especially invited, hone the expressiveness of GC in orientation measurements under different metrics, the treatment of contact elements, and the investigation of efficient computational methodologies. The last two, which also correspond to lectures at the MS, deal with two aspects of deep learning: a presentation of a concrete quaternionic convolutional neural network layer for image classification that features contrast invariance and a general overview of automatic learning aimed at steering the development of neural networks whose units process elements of a suitable algebra, such as a geometric algebra. The book fits, broadly speaking, within the realm of mathematical engineering, and consequently, it is intended for a wide spectrum of research profiles. In particular, it should bring inspiration and guidance to those looking for materials and problems that bridge GC with applications of great current interest, including the auspicious field of GC-based deep neural networks.

This book explores the Lipschitz spinorial groups (versor, pinor, spinor and rotor groups) of a real non-degenerate orthogonal geometry (or orthogonal geometry, for short) and how they relate to the group of isometries of that geometry. After a concise mathematical introduction, it offers an axiomatic presentation of the geometric algebra of an orthogonal geometry.
