Pakistan's Security and the India-US Strategic Partnership - Nuclear Politics and Security Competition (Paperback): Syed... Pakistan's Security and the India-US Strategic Partnership - Nuclear Politics and Security Competition (Paperback)
Syed Shahid Hussain Bukhari
R1,297 Discovery Miles 12 970 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This book explores the relationship between the developing India-US strategic Partnership and Pakistan's security. It assesses India and the US's areas of cooperation to show that the partnership will bring drastic changes for India's military capabilities and modernization of its forces. The book shows that, in addition to enhancing India's domestic nuclear stockpiles through the nuclear cooperation agreement, collaboration in high-tech areas such as space and innovative technologies will enable India to acquire sophisticated delivery systems as well as surveillance capacity. The author argues that these advancements will enable India to destabilize the strategic balance in the region. The book also briefly explores the nuclear doctrines of India and Pakistan that provide an insight into the role of nuclear weapons in maintaining deterrence in the region. To understand the power dynamics caused by the strategic partnership and their impact on strategic stability in South Asia, the author utilizes the Balance of Power and Power Transition theories. A timely analysis of the India-US Strategic Partnership with a Pakistan angle, the book will be of interest to academics working in the fields of Asian security, Asian politics, especially South Asia, strategic studies, international relations, political science, nuclear non-proliferation, conflict studies, arms control, and security studies.

Rapid Review of Radiology (Paperback): Shahid Hussain, Sherif Aaron Abdel Latif, Adrian David Hall Rapid Review of Radiology (Paperback)
Shahid Hussain, Sherif Aaron Abdel Latif, Adrian David Hall
R2,198 Discovery Miles 21 980 Ships in 9 - 15 working days

As in all specialties, learning in radiology is a life long process but for radiologists in training there is a vast amount of information to assimilate. In this book the authors have compiled 191 cases to help the reader with the practical aspects of image recognition and differential diagnosis. The selection of cases is broad enough to provide an introduction for some readers, with more testing cases for those in the later stages of training. Each self-test case is presented with an image, or set of images, together with the pertinent clinical details. The solution and explanation is presented over the page along with differential diagnoses that logically derive from the images and history. The correct diagnosis is followed by discussion of the underlying problem, strategy points and main imaging findings. The book contains 500 images including X-rays, ultrasound, CT, MRI, interventional techniques and nuclear medicine. It is of value to radiologists in training and other health professionals wishing to improve their radiological skills, and is the first book for the FRCR Part 2B exam.

The book uses an accessible format for quick assimilation. It remains an invaluable text for all radiology and cardiology professionals in practice and in training, from hospital-based doctors preparing for higher examinations to established physicians in their continuing professional development.

Extensions of Dynamic Programming for Combinatorial Optimization and Data Mining (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2019): Hassan AbouEisha,... Extensions of Dynamic Programming for Combinatorial Optimization and Data Mining (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2019)
Hassan AbouEisha, Talha Amin, Igor Chikalov, Shahid Hussain, Mikhail Moshkov
R2,991 Discovery Miles 29 910 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Dynamic programming is an efficient technique for solving optimization problems. It is based on breaking the initial problem down into simpler ones and solving these sub-problems, beginning with the simplest ones. A conventional dynamic programming algorithm returns an optimal object from a given set of objects. This book develops extensions of dynamic programming, enabling us to (i) describe the set of objects under consideration; (ii) perform a multi-stage optimization of objects relative to different criteria; (iii) count the number of optimal objects; (iv) find the set of Pareto optimal points for bi-criteria optimization problems; and (v) to study relationships between two criteria. It considers various applications, including optimization of decision trees and decision rule systems as algorithms for problem solving, as ways for knowledge representation, and as classifiers; optimization of element partition trees for rectangular meshes, which are used in finite element methods for solving PDEs; and multi-stage optimization for such classic combinatorial optimization problems as matrix chain multiplication, binary search trees, global sequence alignment, and shortest paths. The results presented are useful for researchers in combinatorial optimization, data mining, knowledge discovery, machine learning, and finite element methods, especially those working in rough set theory, test theory, logical analysis of data, and PDE solvers. This book can be used as the basis for graduate courses.

Improving wheat productivity (Paperback): Farooq Shahid, Hussain Mubshar, Mahmood Zahid Improving wheat productivity (Paperback)
Farooq Shahid, Hussain Mubshar, Mahmood Zahid
R1,064 Discovery Miles 10 640 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Ever increasing population of the globe and use of productive agricultural lands for housing has posed serious threat to future food supply. Low productivity of wheat due to different management practices is a serious problem. Different wheat cultivars are sown in Pakistan in same conventional row spacing ignoring their tillering potential. Optimizing row spacing for different wheat cultivars differing in tillering capacity improves the productivity and thus minimizing the future food shortage risk. Low tillering cultivars sown in narrow row spacing give higher outputs compared with wider spacing. So, to obtain higher productivity low tillering cultivars can be sown in narrow row spacing while; those having higher tillering potential perform best in wider row spacing. In crux, husbandry practices; row spacing in particular, must be choosen keeping in view the tillering potential of wheat cultivars around the globe.

The Effects of Poverty on Children's Experiences of School (Paperback): Shahid Hussain The Effects of Poverty on Children's Experiences of School (Paperback)
Shahid Hussain
R1,284 Discovery Miles 12 840 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

This book investigates the premise that Poverty influences childrens lives in different ways in the public schools of Pakistan, but there is little information about, and understanding of, how poverty-stricken children experience school as opposed to children from better off families. The findings of this study reveal that the school experiences of poor children are not as good as the school experiences of better off children. The parents of poor children do not have enough resources to meet the educational expenses of their children. Furthermore, the findings suggest that poverty that is due to lack of financial resources affects the experiences of children at school, but there are also some other socio-emotional factors which results from poverty such as conflicting relationships with peers and teachers. Therefore, the findings of this study can prove very beneficial for the policy makers in helping them take broader social policy initiatives for reducing poverty and inequality, so that the lives of the poor children could be improved in the public schools of undeveloped countries like Pakistan."

Shahid Hussain
R1,283 Discovery Miles 12 830 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The C4 plants, like maize, are thought to be little affected by global warming. However, influence of increasing root-zone temperature (RZT) on crop plants has largely been ignored. The RZT plays a vital role in availability of certain nutrients by controlling dynamics of soils reactions. In this book, effect of RZT on zinc requirement of two contrasting maize genotypes is discussed. Further research on nutrient availability to plants under different soil temperature regimes is emphasized. The book is aimed at facilitation of under and post graduate students to plan, conduct and write basic and applied research trials on the same topic.

Learnability Results for Elementary Formal Systems (Paperback): Shahid Hussain Learnability Results for Elementary Formal Systems (Paperback)
Shahid Hussain
R1,285 Discovery Miles 12 850 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

Elementary formal systems are a kind of logic programs. We give a comprehensive relationship model for a broad range of classes of elementary formal systems (EFS) and Prolog Programs along with their learnability results in the frameworks of learning in the limit, learning from queries, learning from entailment, and statistical framework of probably approximately correct (PAe learning. The relationship model accompanies the proofs of containment, partial containment, and/or incompatibilities present among these classes. Further, we study exact learning of two classes of Prolog programs (or equivalently elementary formal systems) from entailment. These two classes, hereditary and reductive, of Prolog programs without local variables contain many useful programs such as add, append, lenght, merge, split, delete, member, prefix, and suffix. We present an algorithm to exactly learn hereditary and reductive Prolog programs and analyze it for its correctness. Moreover, the algorithm learns hereditary Prolog programs in polynomial time.
