An ecologist observes the behavior of the bluebirds, The geologist exams the distribution of fossils, A chemist observes the rate of chemical reactions at various temperatures and pressures, A biologist observes the reactions of tissue in the presence of various stimulants, The meteorologist is one that studies the atmosphere and focuses on weather. The prediction of local, national or international weather helps us plan activities from playing outdoor tennis, rescheduling the weekend beach party or whether to expect flight delays. Knowing the daily weather around us can help us decide the best garments for the day or the proper equipment we may need such as an umbrella, boots or wool scarf. It is amazing how we study other planets, solar systems, come to the aid of other countries and their wars, but no one seems to take an interest in the undisputed climate changes happening within the Kingdom of God. Our entire earth as we know it today is experiencing what is called Global Warming. Global Warming is occurring because of human behavior and their activities. Let us now consider the behavior and activities surrounding Kingdom dwellers as they too may be the direct result of "Kingdom Warming."
Twelve-year-old Brendan, his twin brother, Nick, and their older sister, Ami, are struggling to cope with their father's recent death and their family's move to the country. When Ami discovers a hoofprint in the woods, she claims it belongs to a unicorn. Nick is dismissive of her plan to capture it, but Brendan feels drawn into Ami's imaginary world that includes a dangerous, nighttime journey to spy on an "ogre." Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books says, "Welch's writing is rich with detail . . ." VOYA calls it ." . . true to life . . ." The book was shortlisted for the Prairie Pasque Award.
Sixth-grader Marsha is an only child. She's thrilled about her parents' plan to adopt a little sister, but when Wendy arrives, Marsha's life is turned upside down. She has tantrums, messes with Marsha's belongings, steals the affection of the family cat, and embarrasses Marsha everywhere they go. Why should Marsha agree to officially adopting Wendy and having her join their family "forever"? "This charming story accurately reflects the adoption process and the feelings of those involved," according to "Recovery Times," The book was named a Benjamin Franklin Award Finalist.
