A young American au pair, Charlotte Clancy, vanishes without a trace in Mexico City. The case is left cold, but its legacy will be devastating. A decade later, LA is shaken by a spate of violent murders. Psychologist Nikki Roberts is the common link between the victims, her patients at the heart of this treacherous web. When someone makes an attempt on Nikki's life, it's clear she is a marked woman. Nikki makes a living out of reading people, drawing out their secrets, but the key to this shocking pattern eludes her. With the police at a dead end Nikki drafts in Derek Williams, a PI who isn't afraid to put his hand into the hornet's nest. Williams was thwarted in the notorious Charlotte Clancy case all those years ago, but what he unearths in LA - and the mention of one name in particular - leaves him cold, and takes him on a dangerous path into the past. A shadowy manipulator has brought his deadly game to the streets of LA. In a crime spanning generations, it seems Nikki Roberts knows all too much - and a ruthless killer knows the price of her silence. In this crooked city, where enemies and friends are one and the same, Nikki must be the master of her own escape . . .

And for Kate there are ghosts, ghosts of absent friends and of enemies. Ghosts from a life of blackmail and murder. Ghosts from an empire spawned by naked ambition... Sidney Sheldon is one of the most popular storytellers in the world. This is one of his best-loved novels, a compulsively readable thriller, packed with suspense, intrigue and passion. It will recruit a new generation of fans to his writing.

Collection of four musicals starring Fred Astaire. In 'Easter Parade' (1948) Astaire plays Don Hewes, one half of a dance team who is ditched by his partner. Deciding he can make a star out of anyone he wants, Don chooses lowly chorus girl Hannah Brown (Judy Garland) as his new partner. Songs include 'Steppin' Out With My Baby' and 'A Couple of Swells'. In 'Broadway Melody of 1940' (1940) Johnny Brett (Astaire) and King Shaw (George Murphy) are a struggling dance duo. When Broadway producer Bob Casey (Frank Morgan) discovers Johnny's talent he is eager to employ him for his new show alongside star Clare Bennett (Eleanor Powell) but, masquerading as Johnny, it is King who gets the part. When King is unable to perform on opening night, however, Johnny gets his chance on the big stage. Songs include 'I've Got My Eyes On You' and 'Begin the Beguine'. In Francis Ford Coppola's first big-budget feature, 'Finian's Rainbow' (1968), Astaire stars as simple-minded Irishman Finian McLonergan. Fleeing to America with a stolen crock of gold, he is pursued by Og (Tommy Steele), a leprechaun who is the rightful owner of the treasure. Songs include 'Old Devil Moon' and 'If This Isn't Love'. In 'The Band Wagon' (1953) has-been movie actor Tony Hunter (Astaire) agrees to take part in a Broadway show, playing opposite ballerina Gabrielle Gerard (Cyd Charisse). The stars fear they cannot work together, but the show's success is under a bigger threat from its pretentious musical director (Jack Buchanan), who turns a simple story into an overblown monster. When opening night is a flop, it is up to the cast to save the show. Songs include 'That's Entertainment' and 'Dancing in the Dark'.

"The Best Laid Plans" tells the explosive story of the beautiful and ambitious Leslie Stewart, who learns that for some men power is the greatest aphrodisiac, and of Oliver Russell, the handsome governor of a small southern state, who finds out why hell has no fury like a woman scorned. With the unexpected twists and turns that are the hallmarks of his novels, Sidney Sheldon spins a tale of two equally determined people headed on a collision course. Oliver has a strategy to win the White House; Leslie has a scheme to make him wish he'd never been born. They both should have known that even the best-laid plans can go dangerously astray...with deadly consequences. "The Best Laid Plans" takes readers inside two of America's most powerful and ruthless institutions: the world of politics with its scandals, corruption, and cover-ups; and that of newspaper publishing, where it is not unusual to use the power of the press to destroy lives -- or bring down heads of state -- in pursuit of a story or to settle a score.
