This edited collection reconceptualizes the place of early childhood education within communities. Contributors present a shift in the lens of the teachers and management within early childhood services to incorporate new ways of working with, alongside, and in collaboration with family, whanau (a Maori term referring to an extended family), and the wider community.

This monograph gives a comprehensive description of the relationship and connections between kinetic theory and fluid dynamics, mainly for a time-independent problem in a general domain. Ambiguities in this relationship are clarified, and the incompleteness of classical fluid dynamics in describing the behavior of a gas in the continuum limita "recently reported as the ghost effecta "is also discussed. The approach used in this work engages an audience of theoretical physicists, applied mathematicians, and engineers.

By a systematic asymptotic analysis, fluid-dynamic-type equations and their associated boundary conditions that take into account the weak effect of gas rarefaction are derived from the Boltzmann system. Comprehensive information on the Knudsen-layer correction is also obtained. Equations and their boundary conditions are carefully classified depending on the physical context of problems. Applications are presented to various physically interesting phenomena, including flows induced by temperature fields, evaporation and condensation problems, examples of the ghost effect, and bifurcation of flows.

This monograph is intended to provide a comprehensive description of the rela tion between kinetic theory and fluid dynamics for a time-independent behavior of a gas in a general domain. A gas in a steady (or time-independent) state in a general domain is considered, and its asymptotic behavior for small Knudsen numbers is studied on the basis of kinetic theory. Fluid-dynamic-type equations and their associated boundary conditions, together with their Knudsen-layer corrections, describing the asymptotic behavior of the gas for small Knudsen numbers are presented. In addition, various interesting physical phenomena derived from the asymptotic theory are explained. The background of the asymptotic studies is explained in Chapter 1, accord ing to which the fluid-dynamic-type equations that describe the behavior of a gas in the continuum limit are to be studied carefully. Their detailed studies depending on physical situations are treated in the following chapters. What is striking is that the classical gas dynamic system is incomplete to describe the behavior of a gas in the continuum limit (or in the limit that the mean free path of the gas molecules vanishes). Thanks to the asymptotic theory, problems for a slightly rarefied gas can be treated with the same ease as the corresponding classical fluid-dynamic problems. In a rarefied gas, a temperature field is di rectly related to a gas flow, and there are various interesting phenomena which cannot be found in a gas in the continuum limit.

From Iroha-uta, ancient Buddhistic poem of Japan For many years we have been engaged in the preparation and characterization of new metal complexes and chelates, and especially the interpretation of their electronic spectra in solutions. In the course of these studies, we have encountered a number of strange changes in color which occur upon heating, cooling or compressing the solutions, or changing the nature of the solvent. Similar effects of temperature and pressure on the color were often also observed in the solid state. Records of visual observations, spectral measurements, and their interpretations and analyses accumulated each year, until we found ourselves, quite suddenly, in the middle of a fantastic world of color changes - the world of inorganic thermochromism and related chromo tropic phenomena. This book is a result of the reviews by Sone and Prof. S. Utsuno (Kagaku no Ryoiki, 22, 222 (1968); Bunko Kenkyu, 25,123 (1976)), and a series of papers by Fukuda, Sone et al. published in the 1. It has become increasingly clear that more attention is being paid to the physical chemistry and texture of foodstuffs as developments in food technology proceed more rapidly. Rheology, which has been skillfully introduced into polymer technology during recent years, should also be of direct relevance to food technology. The consistency of foodstuffs not only influences the processing of materials e.g. transport, mixing, etc., but it is also important for controlling the quality of food products. An older friend of mine, Dr T. Takano, and I have published a book Flow and Transport in Food Technology, in which we explained the concepts of rheo logy in the first part, and discussed the technological applications in the latter part. As far as text books on the subject of rheology of foodstuffs are concerned, we have only a few at the present, for example, Foodstuffs, their Plasticity, Fluidity and Con sistency edited by Dr Scott Blair, and Agricultural Rheology written by Dr Scott Blair and Dr Reiner. Although they are now classical works, there is clearly a difference between the social conditions of European countries and Japan.
