Fundamentals of Invertebrate Palaeontology - Macrofossils (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2017): Sreepat Jain Fundamentals of Invertebrate Palaeontology - Macrofossils (Hardcover, 1st ed. 2017)
Sreepat Jain
R4,900 Discovery Miles 49 000 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This book provides practical morphological information, together with detailed illustrations and concise texts explaining each entry. The book details the morphological characters of each organism, providing fundamental information for palaeontologists and palaeobiologists alike. Each chapter starts with a brief introduction and goes on to describe the organism's morphology in detail, followed by a brief note on classification and lastly illustrated examples of stratigraphically important organisms through time along with their major distinguishing characters. The book includes over 3000 clearly labelled, hand-drawn and classroom-friendly illustrations of over 1200 species.

Fundamentals of Physical Geology (Hardcover, 2014 ed.): Sreepat Jain Fundamentals of Physical Geology (Hardcover, 2014 ed.)
Sreepat Jain
R4,999 Discovery Miles 49 990 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

Physical Geology is a vast subject and it is not possible to cover all aspects in one book. This book does not invent the wheel but merely put together sets of updated but concise material on Physical Geology with lots of illustrations. All illustrations are created by hand and give a real classroom feel to the book. Students or readers can easily reproduce them by hand. This is a book, where a diagram says it all. The book is divided into four parts. The first part "The Solar System and Cosmic Bodies" deals with elements of our Solar System and the cosmic bodies around it (like meteorites, asteroids, etc.). The second part "The Earth Materials" deals with Earth and its internal structure. The third part "The Hydrologic System" is more exhaustive and deals with the hydrological system of the Earth including Weathering and Mass Wasting, Streams, Groundwater, Karst, Glaciers, Oceans and Aeolian Processes and Landforms. The fourth and the final part "The Tectonic System" deals with different aspects of Plate Tectonics, Earthquakes and Volcanoes.

R4,067 Discovery Miles 40 670 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This book provides practical morphological information, together with detailed illustrations and brief explanatory texts. Each chapter starts with a brief introduction, and goes on to describe the respective organism's morphology in detail through numerous illustrations. This is followed by a brief note on its classification, and concludes with illustrated examples of stratigraphically important organisms through time with their major distinguishing characteristics. Featuring over 2500 clearly labelled, hand-drawn and classroom-friendly illustrations, the book offers a fundamental resource for budding palaeontologists, petroleum geologists and palaeobiologists.

Changes in Late Neogene Caribbean Benthic Foraminifers (Paperback): Sreepat Jain Changes in Late Neogene Caribbean Benthic Foraminifers (Paperback)

R1,463 Discovery Miles 14 630 Ships in 10 - 15 working days

The study tests 3 hypotheses: a) that late Miocene to early Pliocene constriction and complete closure of the Central American Seaway (CAS), caused decreased productivity in the Caribbean, b) reduced paleoproductivity resulted in decreased diversity in the Caribbean and, c) this decreased availability of food (reduced paleoproductivity) was responsible for larger mean test size in the three most common benthic foraminiferal species Epistominella exigua, Oridorsalis umbonatus and Globocassidulina subglobosa. The hypotheses are tested by applying correlation analysis to 7 groups of paleoceanographic proxies, 3 indices of diversity measures and mean test size data from the Caribbean ODP Site 999, to 47 core samples between 8.3-2.5 Ma.Study concludes: a) the gradual closure of the CAS led Caribbean diversity and paleoproductivity to decrease abruptly at 7.9 Ma, when the nutrient-rich Pacific deep waters were cut off, and then, again with the complete closure of the seaway at 4.2 Ma, b) Caribben diversity and paleoproductivity are positively correlated and, c) that the availability of food influences mean test size; lower availability and decreased abundances lead to larger test size.
