Stepping into ones purpose is a process of maturing over time. The process of preparation to become a productive, healthy and fulfilled citizen of the Kingdom of God requires the ability to walk in the wisdom of God. This walk of Wisdom is what this timely book is all about. From a Father's Heart is a book of practical guidance and wisdom from a father and counselor who has been there. Dr. DeKoven has experienced the excitement and concern of watching his own daughters head off into the big world, and has counseled countless young men and women and their families during this highly volatile time of transition. His practical and theologically sound counsel found in the pages of this book will assist parents and spiritual leaders in the planning and preparation for a more fruitful and prosperous future.
One of the historical functions of church life and the role of pastoral ministry is to provide healing for the wounded soul. Although most churches and pastors agree with the need to assist the discouraged and dysfunctional in the congregation, few churches and pastors are adequately equipped for the task. How to Start a Counseling Ministry: The Healing Community for the Local Church waswritten for the equipped counselor or pastor. That is, one who has been trained in the healing ministry of counseling, and wants to provide quality, professional care to the members of the congregation and the community at large. Written from a local church perspective but also with professional counselors in mind, Dr. DeKoven present the nuts and bolts of establishing a Healing Community for the local church, a counseling center designed for both in reach (care for the congregation) and outreach (as an impactful evangelistic tool to the community). In this highly practical work, Dr. DeKoven provides to the reader a systematic approach to developing, organizing, marketing and managing a successful Christian Counseling Ministry. Based upon the authors over 35 years of clinical and pastoral experience, this book includes: Thinking it through: Are you sure you want to do this? Strategic Planning Clinical and Administrative procedures to keep you out of trouble, plus Dozens of tips for the development of dynamic counseling services to impact your unique community
This is the second edition of the book originally crafted by my dear friend, mentor and now member of the great cloud of witnesses, Dr. Joseph J. Bohac. For both Doc Bohac and myself, much of our understanding of human development comes from being acutely interested in people. We were/are observers, and we have studied much in this dynamic field. That being said, we are not really academics...more practitioners, and we have written this book to be read by students who may not do much additional study in the field of Human Development than this work. Thus, though we believe it is scholarly, it is not written for the advanced scholar, but the average person who is also fascinated with God's special creation...mankind. "
Fresh Manna is not a comprehensive book on hermeneutics; it is an introductory text, with a specific design to whet the appetite of the reader to desire to read and study the word of God for the rest of their life. As a lifelong learner, one who is enamored with the Book of all Books, my prayer is that the helps provided will inspire the student to dig out the nuggets of truth, and fall more and more in love with the Lord of the Book....Jesus.

The author of this book, Dr. Stan DeKoven was stuck with a nagging question, after listening in to the prayers of God's people. Most of the prayers were deeply sincere, but focused on the needs of the person praying...little if any emphasis was placed on what God might want given the circumstances they were facing. This launched the author to pursue the question in a series of Sermons by the same title of this book.
Dr. DeKoven has taken a most familiar passage of scripture and presented a teaching on it that is both practical and profound. This foundational teaching is found in Matthew 5; commonly called the Beatitudes or the Sermon on the Mountain, and subsequent teachings. These teachings by Christ, no doubt repeated and embellished by hHim in His earthly ministry, were to fulfill and complete the Laws of Moses, for the one greater than Moses was truly here, Jesus Christ. In this brief study, the author presents four of the key laws of Christ relating the topics of Anger, Purity, Honesty, & Love. Each is presented with humor and grace, along with timely insights from this timeless teaching from Christ.
In this seminal work by Therapist and Educator Dr. Stan DeKoven, the full ramifications of family violence are exposed and dismantled. From a proper understanding of the dynamics leading to abuse, rooted in family dysfunction, to the treatment of victim and victimizer, Dr. DeKoven presents the truth and destroys the myths of family violence, from a strongly psychological and theological perspective.
For several years the author reflected on an important question. In Christ, what was, that is, what is history or past, what is, or what is our present reality and what is to come; what remains a future reality in God, from an eschatological perspective. It was this question that led the author to preach this 2007 Fontana series titled The Overcomers Life. The primary text preached from was taken from the book of Revelation, chapter 1, verse eight.
In this introductory work on Church Leadership, Dr. DeKoven presents keys to effective leadership, which flows from the life of the leader. Godly leaders with a servant's heart are vitally needed in evangelical churches, requiring skills and a sure calling. The leadership skills needed for effective congregational care are described through the various identified roles a Spiritual Leader assumes.
This resource, primarily designed for students in training as counselors, will challenge readers, and prepare them for more effective counseling ministry.
This brief book by Dr. Stan DeKoven provides some insights on the church and his view of changes that would help the church more effectively fulfill its mission in the 21st century. It is, of course, just one man's opinion, but a learned one with Biblical perspective and wisdom.
Not many start the day with a sense of gloom and doom...at least they don't want to start that way. In fact, most of us as believers in Christ at begin our day with at least a sense of hopeful expectation and a desire for success in life. Success is defined in a diversity of ways, from money, power and prestige, to a more godly view such as fulfilling ones purpose in the Kingdom of God. Well, no matter how one might define success...we all want it, though we might not all know how to achieve it.
