This volume contains papers presented at a workshop held at the 18th annual meeting of Deutsche Gesellschaft fA1/4r Sprachwissenschaft in 1996. The articles contained in this volume focus on the lexical vs. functional categoryhood of prepositional elements, their syntactic and semantic properties (also with respect to grammaticalization), aspects of automatic language processing and the meanings of prepositional elements in cognitive linguistics.

Woerterbucher als Nachschlagewerke und strukturierte Wissensbestande dienen seit Jahrhunderten als Hilfsmittel. In der heutigen Gesellschaft verandert sich die Rolle von Woerterbuchern, um den neuen Erfordernissen gerecht zu werden: Neben Fachwissen und Fremdsprachenkenntnissen wird es in Zukunft immer starker auch auf den Erwerb von Schlusselkompetenzen wie Wissensmanagement, Kommunikationsfahigkeit und interkulturelle Kompetenz ankommen. In einzelnen Beitragen werden die neuesten Entwicklungen zur Konzeption von Woerterbuchern, zum Aufbau und Wesen von idiomatischen Woerterbuchern sowie zu Woerterbuchgebrauch und Fachlexikographie prasentiert.
