Stephen Barton has commissioned social scientists, philosophers of
religion, feminists, biblical scholars, historians, moral
theologians and systematic theologians - international experts from
a wide range of theological and related disciplines - to reflect on
"holiness."The book is divided into four parts: the idea of
holiness, holiness and scripture, holiness and Christian tradition,
and holiness and contemporary issues. The contributions are
inter-denominational and inter-religious. There is nothing
comparable on "holiness" available at present, so this collection
fills a significant gap in the literature. Its comprehensive range
and its interdisciplinary style will make it an important resource
for students and scholars in theology, church history, ethics and
religious studies.

Welcome to this 'novice's guide'. At last a book that explains the
real science behind the cosmetics we use. Taking a gentle approach
and a guided journey through the different product types, we
discover that they are not as superficial as often thought and
learn that there is some amazing science behind them. We shall
uncover some of the truths behind the myths and point out some
interesting facts on our way. Did you know? Vitamin E is the
world's most used cosmetic active ingredient. At just 1mm thick,
your amazing skin keeps out just about everything it's exposed to -
including your products! A 'chemical soup' of amino acids, urea,
mineral salts and organic acids act as 'water magnets' in the skin
keeping it naturally moisturised. Discovered centuries ago, iron
oxides (yes, the same chemicals as rust) are still commonly used
inorganic pigments in foundations. A lipstick is a fine balance of
waxes, oils and colourants to keep the stick stable and leave an
even gloss on your lips.
This book introduces an approach to CBT for depression that
integrates cognitive-behavioural models, evidence and therapies.
Rooted in evidence-based practice and practically focused, it draws
on components of first, second and third-wave CBT to help readers
tailor therapy to the needs of individual clients. There is a
particular focus on challenging presentations: the authors equip
students with the skills to work with different depression
sub-types, co-morbid disorders and a broad range of
bio-psychosocial factors that can complicate depression and its
therapy. Linking theory, evidence and case illustrations, the
authors provide a wealth of practical tips that support clinical
practice. In-depth cases studies and client contributions add
further depth to this rich and stimulating book. This book is
relevant to those taking postgraduate training courses in mental
health such as CBT therapists, counsellors, nurses, clinical
psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers and
psychiatrists.

What is wisdom - and where is it to be found? A number of experts
in a wide range of theological and related disciplines have come
together to explore this question. In the first part they consider
wisdom in Israel and in the church, drawing upon scriptural sources
and historical case-studies. In the second part, theologians,
philosophers, social scientists, ethicists and educationalists look
at wisdom in the contemporary world. While much good work has been
done on biblical traditions, there has been very little on the many
facets of wisdom in the Judeo-Christian theological, philosophical
and ethical traditions. This book breaks considerable new ground.
In these wide-ranging studies, Stephen Barton shows that Christian
theology and the Christian scriptures have a vital contribution to
make to contemporary wisdom about our common life. The subjects he
addresses are relevant to the concerns of many people today. What
he has to say about the family, sexuality, community and biblical
interpretation is both informative and creative. Running through
the book is the issue of the appropriate use of the Bible: how the
sacred text may speak in ways which are life-giving. Stephen Barton
claims that questions about the interpretation of the Bible have to
be set in the larger context of what it means to be the church. A
central argument i that the Bible is the kind of text the truth of
whose witness is discovered above all in the lives of individuals
and communities seeking to share by grace in the life of the
Trinity.
