What Churchill Would Do - Practical Business Advice Based on Winston's WW2 Wisdom (Paperback): Stuart Finlay What Churchill Would Do - Practical Business Advice Based on Winston's WW2 Wisdom (Paperback)
Stuart Finlay; Edited by Fiona Finlay; Contributions by Ruby Weir

To really gain an insight into how Winston Churchill managed WW2, you need to read the many thousands of memos he wrote during the war. Churchill's memoirs are packed full of stories and information, however they were written in the rosy glow of victory. The memo's tell the real story; written in the heat of the moment they provide a lasting imprint of who Churchill really was and, more importantly for my book, how he went about saving the west from an unspeakable tyranny. To be clear, this is a business focused book with a twist. It is 80% history, 20% business and 100% entertaining, with lots of surprises thrown in for good measure.. The subtitle of the book states "Practical Business Advice Based on Winston's WW2 Wisdom." There was something about Churchill that marked him out as special. Easy to say, challenging to detail. Over the next 240 pages I will share the nuggets of wisdom I have identified from my years studying Churchill's approach to running the war in a way that enables the reader to use this knowledge in a modern business environment.

This book is so much more than just another business improvement book. Churchill wrote his memoirs of WWII, all 6000 pages of them. I discovered them by accident, started reading Volume 1. Every so often Churchill would describe a situation from the war and offer the reader some personal advice, in the 5th volume he gave another piece of advice that really chimed with a business issue I recalled. It seemed a shame that this great advice was now lost. This book captures Churchill's advice for a new audience. Each chapter describes the war situation the advice emanates from and then places it into a business context. Unlike most business books, each chapter is full of surprising war stories. Once people start reading it they don't want to put it down. Everyone takes something away that enhances the way they work. It is a great read, improves business performance and provides lots of information about the war. It is so much more than just another business improvement book.
