Medicinal plants have always been the principle source of medicine
in India since ancient past and presently they are becoming the
popular among the users because of less or no side effects.
Besides, they also play an important role in the lives of tribal
and rural people, particularly in remote part of developing
countries. The present book deals with the medicinal plants with
special reference to their phytochemical and medicinal uses.
India has a rich diversity of medicinal and aromatic plants; more
than 8000 species of wild plants are known to be used in India
treatment of various health disorders. Madhya Pradesh is rich in
medicinal and aromatic plant, provides a significant source of
income for a large number of people derive employment and from the
collection, processing and trade of these plants. Importance of
medicinal plants is widely accepted, there is a serious lack of
comprehensive information on the economically important and
threatened species of Madhya Pradesh, India. There are more than
100 plant species has been reported and preparing the Database of
medicinal plants observed/collected from various parts of Madhya
Pradesh state of India. In the present book botanical name, family,
local/common name, habit, cultivated/wild, distribution, flowering
& fruiting, economic part, medicinal part/uses, active
ingredients and IUCN status for every species along with its
photograph has been mentioned.
Contraceptives are preparations used for reversible suppression of
fertility. Because of our alarming population trends, anti
fertility drugs are the need of the day. In developing countries
particularly the mortality rate has declined and birth rate has
increased due to urbanization. In earlier part of present century
method of contraception used (condoms, diaphragms, spermicidal
creams, foam tablets etc) were intimately related to several inter
course, therefore, despised by most couples. These also having
higher failure rate announced the successful use of an oral
progestin for contraception, separating fertility control from
coitus.Due to major side effects, the herbal oral contraceptives
are the need of hour. The word herbal is the symbol of safety in
contrast to the synthetic ones, which have adverse effect on human
health. Modern allopathic medicines have provided several
preventive and corrective methods of contraception as discuss
above, but none of which is very safe and without any serious side
effects.
