From an award-winning endocrinology pioneer and metabolism expert comes a revolutionary, sustainable and scientific approach to help you lose weight, regain energy, clear your mind, and prevent disease.

Like our fingerprints, each of us has a unique metabolism. Your metabolism will change as you move through life, shaping your mental and physical capabilities. However, one in four of us will experience trouble with our metabolism. Dr. Noel Maclaren, an award-winning endocrinologist and Sunita Singh Maclaren, a medical anthropology expert, share their revolutionary new approach to mastering your metabolism that combines medical and behavioral insights in order to help balance your weight, boost your energy and improve your cognitive abilities.

Imagine the metabolism as a beguiling jigsaw. We all fit into one of four ‘metabolic personality’ types, based on our bodies' levels of sensitivity to insulin. Maximize Your Metabolism offers a comprehensive self-assessment quiz to uncover yours. Drawing on pioneering data from a person’s genetic legacies, appetite signals and mental resilience, this book will enable you to create a unique plan specific to your needs, and will help you achieve robust brain and body health, including:

  • Enhancing your cognitive abilities by limiting grains and fruits as the brain’s ability to absorb glucose declines from your late 40’s onwards
  • Optimizing your weight by identifying the simple vs. complex carbohydrates that work for your metabolic type
  • Overcoming insulin-related persistent fatigue and increasing your muscle’s energy efficiency through resistance and aerobic exercise
  • Protecting yourself from disease-causing internal inflammation by opting for prebiotics found in artichokes, leeks and onions and avoiding certain “health” foods

Dr. Noel Maclaren and Sunita Singh Maclaren have helped thousands of patients in their clinic for over fifteen years, by reversing these metabolic imbalances. Filled with specific time-tested guidance and over 30 healthy and delicious recipes, Maximize Your Metabolism is perfect for anyone who wants to be a champion of their own health, gain an overall sense of wellbeing in as little as six months, and to sustain it for a lifetime.

Empowering Methodologies in Organisational and Social Research (Hardcover): Emma Bell, Sunita Singh-Sengupta Empowering Methodologies in Organisational and Social Research (Hardcover)
Emma Bell, Sunita Singh-Sengupta
R4,141 Discovery Miles 41 410 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This book explores the meaning and practice of empowering methodologies in organisational and social research. In a context of global academic precarity, this volume explores why empowering research is urgently needed. It discusses the situatedness of knowing and knowledge in the context of core-periphery relations between the global North and South. The book considers the sensory, affective, embodied practice of empowering research, which involves listening, seeing, moving and feeling, to facilitate a more diverse, creative and crafty repertoire of research possibilities. The essays in this volume examine crucial themes including: * How to decolonise management knowledge * Using imaginative, visual and sensory methods * Memory and space in empowering research * Empowerment and feminist methodologies * The role of reflexivity in empowering research By bringing postcolonial perspectives from India, the volume aims to revitalise management and organisation studies for global readers. This book will be useful for scholars and researchers of management studies, organisational behaviour, research methodology, development studies, social sciences in general and gender studies and sociology.

Survismeter - Fundamentals, Devices, and Applications (Hardcover): Man Singh, Sunita Singh Survismeter - Fundamentals, Devices, and Applications (Hardcover)
Man Singh, Sunita Singh
R3,610 Discovery Miles 36 100 Ships in 12 - 17 working days

This book presents the survismeter, a new invention that widely covers and determines PCPs of various molecules and experimentally measures the thermodynamic and kinetic stabilities of nanoemulsions. It unveils how a survismeter can measure surface tension, interfacial tension, wettability, viscosity, friccohesity, tentropy, rheology, density, activation energy, and particle size. It discusses novel models of molecular science that can be applied in the formulation and study of activities of functional molecules through their PCPs. It also introduces the new concept of friccohesity, which has emerged as an excellent substitute of viscosity and surface tension in experimental measurements as it does not require density measurements. It shows that the science and technology of the survismeter and friccohesity have become an inevitable part of scientific research, substantially integrating the domain of perfect industrial and academic formulations.

Erucic acid and glucosinolate are the two major deterrents, respectively of oil and seed meal in oilseed brassica. Indian mustard oil is inferior in quality as it contains high amount of erucic acid (28.0-53.0%) and linolenic acid (8.5-22.7%) although it also contains linoleic (12.0-21.0%) and oleic acid (10.0-24.0%) which is nutritionally good. High erucic acid rapeseed oil (eg. Brassica campestris var. yellow sarson) is a preferred cooking medium for its pungency especially in the preparation of pickles, vegetables and fish items etc. in eastern India. Glucosinolates stay in the seed meal after extraction of oil and are broken down by the enzyme myrosinase into bitter tasting, toxic and goitrogenic compounds reducing the nutritive value and palatability of the meal and inhibit functioning of the thyroid gland of live-stocks. Now a days, the emphasis is to develop "double low" low erucic acid (
