Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made

Power Cable Technology provides a precise understanding of the
design, manufacture, installation, and testing of a range of
electric power cablesâfrom low-voltage, 1,000/1,100V cables to
extra-high-voltage, 400kV cablesâwith reference to future trends
in the industry. The authorsâ mantra is: know your cable. Thus,
the book begins with a comprehensive overview of power cable design
and manufacturing through the ages, and then: Describes the
characteristics of the materials currently used in the production
of various power cables Explains how to calculate the die orifice
for drawing wires, how tolerance in manufacturing affects material
weight and consumption, and how and why lubricants are used
Addresses the formation, stranding, and insulation of the
electrical conductors, as well as the sheathing, armouring, and
protective covering of the power cables Delivers an in-depth
discussion of quality systems, quality control, and performance
testing Covers the many nuances of cable installation, including
laying, jointing, and terminating Throughout, the authors emphasise
consonance between design theory and practical application to
ensure production of a quality power cable at a reasonable cost.
They also underscore the importance of careful handling, making
Power Cable Technology a must read for power cable engineers and
technicians alike.

This book addresses topical development issues in India, ranging
from land acquisition, poverty alleviation programs, labor market
issues, the public-private partnership (PPP) model and fiscal
federalism. It offers an Indian perspective on the dynamics of
economic development and the impact the country's legal and public
policies have on it. Economic development is a dynamic concept -
old problems are solved, while at the same time new issues come to
the fore. The emergence of these issues is unique to the
development experience of an economy. The book includes sixteen
recent contributions and is divided into four sections: law and
contract; trade and foreign aid; issues in public economics; and
the social sector and poverty alleviation. The chapters reflect on
a number of development issues which were of concern for India in
the recent past and will be important in her future development
initiatives such as land acquisition, agricultural productivity,
employment, protection of intellectual property rights, corruption,
public-private partnership, regional development, poverty
alleviations programs like the National Rural Employment Guarantee
Act (NREGA) and the training of self-help group members, health and
education of women, to name a few. The book is a valuable reference
resource for policy practitioners and researchers working on the
economics of development with special focus on developing
economies.
Visualization Techniques for Climate Change with Machine Learning
and Artificial Intelligence covers computer-aided artificial
intelligence and machine learning technologies as related to the
impacts of climate change and its potential to prevent/remediate
the effects. As such, different types of algorithms, mathematical
relations and software models may help us to understand our current
reality, predict future weather events and create new products and
services to minimize human impact, chances of improving and saving
lives and creating a healthier world. This book covers different
types of tools for the prediction of climate change and alternative
systems which can reduce the levels of threats observed by climate
change scientists. Moreover, the book will help to achieve at least
one of 17 sustainable development goals i.e., climate action.
Metals in Water: Global Sources, Significance, and Treatment covers
metal pollution in water, where they come from, their effects, and
remediation processes. Sections overview heavy metals pollution,
including their global health impacts and remediation measures.
Geogenic and anthropogenic input of heavy metals in water are
described, along with global case studies, step-by-step methods on
remediation techniques, different detection sensors, and assessment
practices of toxicity of heavy metals. The book focuses on recent
research surrounding heavy metals' contamination in water resources
and its impact across the globe. Chapters incorporate both
theoretical and practical aspects and serve as baseline information
for water resources studies. This book is useful for postgraduate
students, teachers and researchers working in areas of water
resources and pollution, hydrochemistry, environmental remediation
and toxicology who are looking to understand the affects metals
have on water, the environment and health, and also those looking
for methods for remediation.
Phytoremediation Technology for the Removal of Heavy Metals and
Other Contaminants from Soil and Water focuses on the exploitation
of plants and their associated microbes as a tool to
degrade/detoxify/stabilize toxic and hazardous contaminants and
restore the contaminated site. The book introduces various
phytoremediation technologies using an array of plants and their
associated microbes for environmental cleanup and sustainable
development. The book mainly focuses on the remediation of toxic
and hazardous environmental contaminants, their phytoremediation
mechanisms and strategies, advances and challenges in the current
scenario. This book is intended to appeal to students, researchers,
scientists and a wide range of professionals responsible for
regulating, monitoring and designing industrial waste facilities.
Engineering consultants, industrial waste managers and purchasing
department managers, government regulators, and graduate students
will also find this book invaluable.
Advances in Remediation Techniques for Polluted Soils and
Groundwater focuses on the thematic areas for assessment,
mitigation, and management of polluted sites. This book covers
advances in modelling approaches, including Machine Learning (ML)/
Artificial Intelligence (AI) applications; GIS and remote sensing;
sensors; impacts of climate change on geogenic contaminants; and
socio-economic impacts in the poor rural and urban areas, which are
lacking in a more comprehensive manner in the previous titles. This
book encompasses updated information as well as future directions
for researchers working in the field of management and remediation
of polluted sites.
Metagenomics to Bioremediation: Applications, Cutting Edge Tools,
and Future Outlook provides detailed insight into metagenomics
approaches to bioremediation in a comprehensive manner, thus
enabling the analysis of microbial behavior at a community level
under different environmental stresses during degradation and
detoxification of environmental pollutants. The book summarizes
each and all aspects of metagenomics applications to
bioremediation, helping readers overcome the lack of updated
information on advancement in microbial ecology dealing with
pollution abatement. Users will find insight not only on the
fundamentals of metagenomics and bioremediation, but also on recent
trends and future expectations. This book will appeal to readers
from diverse backgrounds in biology, chemistry and life sciences.
Inorganic Pollutants in Water provides a clear understanding of
inorganic pollutants and the challenges they cause in aquatic
environments. The book explores the point of source, how they enter
water, the effects they have, and their eventual detection and
removal. Through a series of case studies, the authors explore the
success of the detection and removal techniques they have
developed. Users will find this to be a single platform of
information on inorganic pollutants that is ideal for researchers,
engineers and technologists working in the fields of environmental
science, environmental engineering and chemical engineering/
sustainability. Through this text, the authors introduce new
researchers to the problem of inorganic contaminants in water,
while also presenting the current state-of-the-art in terms of
research and technologies to tackle this problem.
Every year hundreds of new businesses are started. Sadly very few
will actually survive beyond the start-up phase. One reason they
fail is that the entrepreneurs behind these businesses don't fully
understand the importance of the accounting and tax aspects of
their business. Sushil Kumar, CPA, walks you through the steps in
the life of a business and gives you twelve cardinal astonishingly
simple, foolproof steps to laying the foundation for entity
structure planning, detailed business planning, and tax compliance.
Whether you are presently running your own business or just
planning to start one, this book is a must-have. There's a lot of
information packed in the fun, enlightening, classic book, written
specifically for New York small-business owner. Written in a
personable and easy-to-understand style, this book covers
everything you'd want to know to take control of your business and
be a success. All the chapters are important but I would more
weight on chapter twelve. This is a list of surefire attributes to
figure for yourself whether you belong in the world of business.
There is also a check list of things to do to run a successful
business in the New York region, which is part of Annex I.
