In 1985, singer/songwriter Suzanne Vega released her stunning
self-titled debut album. 25 years and 7 million albums sold later,
Suzanne is widely regarded as one of the most brilliant songwriters
of her generation. Now Suzanne is reinterpreting a majority of her
catalog in a close and personal manner, creating 4 new thematic
albums that will be released over 2010-2011. States of Being has
Suzanne revisiting her most haunting songs. Suzanne used to call
these the Mental Health songs. They express a state of mind, but
also more than that; Suzanne says, they are descriptions of a place
deep inside. Anyone can feel like the narrator in Penitent, or
Cracking, depending on your mood. Vol. 3 also includes a brand new
song, a collaboration with Duncan Sheik from Suzanne s upcoming
play, Carson McCullers Talks About Love. New acoustic recordings,
featuring Brooklyn Rider Includes new never released track
co-written by Duncan Sheik
Iconic singer/songwriter Suzanne Vega continues her journey back
into her illustrious songbook with the second volume of her superb
four-part thematic acoustic album series SUZANNE VEGA CLOSE-UP,
VOL. 2 PEOPLE & PLACES With her native New York City serving as
a constant inspiration throughout her work, Vega acoustically
reimagines twelve gems on this new volume, from the career-defining
"Luka," one of the most instantly recognizable pop songs of the
past 20 years, "Tom's Diner" to the quietly stirring emotions of
the classic "Queen and the Soldier," as well as a new song written
with Mark Linkous and Dangermouse, "The Man Who Played God." Vega
is joined in the studio by her longtime musical companions Gerry
Leonard on guitar and Michael Visceglia on bass, as well as the
acclaimed Brooklyn-based string quartet Brooklyn Rider.
Suzanne Vega is a poet of the urban streets whose passionate eye catches the motion and vibrant color of the life that surrounds us all. In this volume are her collected writings: poems and stories; song lyrics and overheard conversations; remembrances of times past and faraway countries.
All three volumes of highlights and performances from some of the
best bands of the 1970s and 1980s on the seminal British music
series. Presenters such as Bob Harris, Annie Nightingale and Andy
Kershaw introduce acts such as Roxy Music, The Who, The Adverts,
Aztec Camera, Style Council, Suzanne Vega, David Bowie, The Jam,
Simple Minds, and Edwyn Collins, amongst many others. As well as
classic performances, the Old Grey Whistle Test featured in-depth
interviews with major stars such as John Lennon, Keith Richards,
Bruce Springsteen, Robert Plant, and Mick Jagger.
Suzanne Vega's first disc, Suzanne Vega, showed great promise for
her future as a folk-rocker. Solitude Standing fulfills that
promise and then some, with a stronger, more self-assured sound,
and a tone and texture that beautifully suit the artist and the
times. Vega's lyrics are still the kind to leave marketing
executives wondering what they've gotten into: "Luka" speaks
through the eyes of an abused child; "Ironbound/Fancy Poultry"
eerily compares inner-city children to the "breasts and...
