Metaphors are a vital linguistic component of religious speech and serve as a cultural indicator of how groups understand themselves and the world. The essays compiled in this volume analyze the use, function, and structure of metaphors in Jewish writings from the Hellenistic-Roman period (including the works of Philo and the texts of Qumran), as well as in apocryphal early Christian texts and inscriptions.

This book includes the thoroughly refereed post-conference proceedings of the 17th Annual RoboCup International Symposium, held in Eindhoven, The Netherlands, in June 2013. The 20 revised papers presented together with 11 champion team papers, 3 best paper awards, 11 oral presentations, and 19 special track on open-source hard- and software papers were carefully reviewed and selected from 78 submissions. The papers present current research and educational activities within the fields of robotics and artificial intelligence with a special focus to robot hardware and software, perception and action, robotic cognition and learning, multi-robot systems, human-robot interaction, education and edutainment, and applications.

Human performance in visual perception by far exceeds the performance of contemporary computer vision systems. While humans are able to perceive their environment almost instantly and reliably under a wide range of conditions, computer vision systems work well only under controlled conditions in limited domains. This book sets out to reproduce the robustness and speed of human perception by proposing a hierarchical neural network architecture for iterative image interpretation. The proposed architecture can be trained using unsupervised and supervised learning techniques. Applications of the proposed architecture are illustrated using small networks. Furthermore, several larger networks were trained to perform various nontrivial computer vision tasks.

Die Psalmen Salomos (PsSal) zahlen zu den wichtigsten Zeugen judischer Literatur und Theologie des ersten Jahrhunderts v. Chr. Die Studie zeichnet die Forschungsgeschichte dieser nicht kanonisch gewordenen Sammlung nach und skizziert deren Gesamtkomposition. Im Mittelpunkt der Untersuchung steht eine traditions- und kompositionsgeschichtliche Analyse der Lehrdichtung PsSal 14. In weisheitlicher Manier kontrastiert PsSal 14 Lebenswandel und Schicksal von Frommen und Sundern und nimmt dabei Ps 1 im Licht weiterer biblischer Traditionen und Motive interpretierend auf. PsSal 14 erweist sich als ein fruhes Beispiel der literarischen Rezeption von Ps 1, das ebenso traditionsgebunden wie innovativ ist und ein klares theologisches Programm besitzt.

Bachelorarbeit aus dem Jahr 2010 im Fachbereich Germanistik - Neuere Deutsche Literatur, Note: 1, Carl von Ossietzky Universitat Oldenburg, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Schmidts Erzahlung 'Caliban uber Setebos' gilt im Gesamtwerk des Autors als einer der filigransten und dichtest codierten Texte: Unter der Oberflache einer abstrakten Orpheus-Analogie uberkreuzen sich mehrere Leseebenen, die um die letztendliche Konkretisierung und Facettierung einer fur die Leser zu fassenden 'Fabel-Aussage' miteinander konkurrieren. Betrachtet und kritisch kommentiert werden die bisherigen literaturwissenschaftlich-hermeneutischen Zugange, die angesichts der Komplexitat des Textes als eigenstandiges Kunstwerk merkwurdig wirkungslos bleiben. Daher soll eine mogliche neue, poststrukturalistisch orientierte Perspektive auf die Erzahlung aufgezeigt werden: Wie viel Bedeutung er-/tragt ein Text, bis er keine definitiv gultige Bedeutung mehr hat? Derridas Theoriekomplexe zur 'Signifikantenkette', der sich im Text als Objekt vollziehenden Dissemination von Bedeutung, fallt die Aufgabe zu, das 'Spiel der Bedeutung' zu beschreiben und wird zugleich an Schmidts spezifischer Schreibweise sichtbar gemacht. Schliesslich ergibt sich aus der Anwendbarkeit poststrukturalistischer Bedeutungstheorie auf die ecriture Schmidts in dieser Erzahlung ein neuer Eindruck: Konnten die inhaltlichen Anspielungen auf den Holocaust und die Sprachgestaltung Schmidts als eine Reaktion auf Forderungen Adornos und anderer darstellen? Ist das produzierte Spiel mit der 'letztendlichen Bedeutungslosigkeit der Zeichen' eine tiefgreifende und feinsinnige Kritik des Autors an der fehlenden Erinerungskultur seiner Zeitgenossen
