The Landolt-Bornstein subvolumes III/44A and III/44B update the
existing 8 volumes III/41 about Semiconductors and contain new Data
and Updates for I-VII, III-V, III-VI, IV, VI and II-VI Compounds.
The text, tables figures and references are provided in
self-contained document files, each one dedicated to a substance
and property. The first subvolume III/44A contains a "Systematics
of Semiconductor Properties," which should help the non-specialist
user to understand the meaning of the material parameters.
Hyperlinked lists of substances and properties lead directly to the
documents and make the electronic version an easy-to-use source of
semiconductor data. In the new updates III/44A and III/44B, links
to existing material in III/41 or to related documents for a
specific substance are also included.
Trevor Callaway, a successful romance novelist and Ernest
Hemmingway wannabe, is fishing off the coast of Chub Cay in the
Bahamas when he hooks into a world-class marlin. After hours of
fighting the fish, he is disappointed when the fish seems to die
before he can boat and release it. Upon close inspection he
discovers the fish has died because something has cleanly cut off
its tail. Not wanting to waste the magnificent fish, Trevor and his
boat crew, Richie and Dave, two ex street people that he rescued
from a golf course in Key West, decide to haul it to Bimini to have
it smoked. Little do they know that the fish responsible for the
marlin's death is lurking close by and follows the bleeding
marlin's blood trail. The fish, an ancient barracuda with failing
eyesight, almost immediately begins to affect the lives of visitors
and natives of the tropical paradise.

Alternatives@is an unique short story and first-hand anecdotes of
chiropractic medicine. Dr. Tom Clayton, a highly respected
chiropractic physician in the small community of Deerfield,
Illinois, unexpectedly finds himself a defendant in a law suit
having been accused of inducing a stroke and subsequent death of
Nancy Holt by adjusting cervical vertebrae in her neck.. After
enduring a tense jury trial Tom devotes his life and practice to
educating people as to the many advantages of alternative
approaches to the treatment of disease as opposed to the use of
toxic drugs and invasive surgery. Not only does he educate patients
in his office but soon finds himself conducting open seminars in a
local school auditorium. He takes dead aim at the pharmaceutical
industry exposing the cholesterol myth, discussing several
successful approaches to cancer treatment without the devastating
effects of chemotherapy, surgery or radiation and introduces proven
methods of halting the progression of Alzheimer=s Disease. Other
topics include the multitude of toxins we inhale, inject, ingest
and absorb on a daily basis, the evils of sugar and an unique
approach to osteoporosis. The book is factual, absorbing and
thought provoking for everyone interested in their health.
There is something missing in the culture of today's business
operations that endangers all of us, Generals and Soldiers alike.
If what appears to be a majority of "Generals (Corporate top
managers)" continue on this self destructive course most of the
"soldiers in the field" will end up bleeding even more by the loss
of jobs and the destruction of the organizations that many are
still very loyal to. Management's efforts to eliminate as many
individuals from the customer contact part of business is a trend
that is creating an environment where business is giving up on the
people part of business. These business leaders are creating an
"interface" that involves ordering, shipping, billing and paying
for the product with as little human interaction as possible. In my
travels around the world, I have found this is NOT the trend
customers want, need or desire. The news item at the beginning of
the Introduction chapter of this book is a large hint as to what
customer's really want. There are active Web sites designed to aid
customers in by-passing the "automated response customer service
and answering systems" many companies use as insulation between
themselves and direct customer contact. If markets.no we should
say... Customers.wanted or needed these kinds of systems or
services why is there such a booming market in the development of
ways to get around them? The company that combines human contact
and relationships with technology of today and tomorrow will be the
company that becomes the next GM or Microsoft of the world. The
question is who or where is this company going to be located. In
the West or East, it does not matter that much to me but in a world
where economics will drive theempires of the future, we better
start taking notice.
