Polish drama following young doctor Bazyli (Tadeusz Lomnicki), whose compulsive womanising has left him tired and all but immune to the charms of the girls who attempt to seduce him. However, when he enjoys an intense conversation with a mysterious woman, Pelagia (Krystyna Stypulkowska), who subsequently disappears, Bazyli finds himself smitten and sets off around the city in search of her.
Andrzej Monk directs this 1950s Polish film which explores less conventional means of heroism. Set during World War II, the feature is comprised of two separate tales. The first, entitled 'Scherzo Alla Pollacca', follows Dzidzius (Edward Dziewonski), a Warsaw man who is drawn into the war in spite of his fervent desire to protect himself from danger at all costs. 'Ostinato Lugubre' takes place in a Prisoner of War camp, where the escape bid of Lt. Zawistowski (Tadeusz Lomnicki) becomes a subject of legend among the patriotic Polish POWs. However, was Zawistowski trying to escape from the camp or merely to escape from them?
