Der vorliegende Band fuhrt in einem doppelten Sinn in die 'Schlusselwerke' der Cultural Studies mit einem Schwerpunkt auf ihren medienanalytischen Ansatz ein: Sein erster Teil stellt grundlegende theoretische Bezugsfelder anhand von Autoren vor, die fur die Entwicklung der Cultural Studies zentral sind. Im zweiten Teil werden wesentliche Bereiche der Cultural Studies anhand der Werke zentraler Vertreterinnen und Vertreter dargestellt. Auf diese Weise eroeffnet das Buch 'Schlusselwerke der Cultural Studies' einen umfassenden Einstieg in diesen aktuellen und kritischen Zugang der Medien-, Kommunikations- und Kulturforschung.

Den Alltag auffallig zu machen und ihn als Bezugspunkt der Medienkommunikationsforschung in den Blick zu rucken, ist Ziel des vorliegenden Bandes. Im ersten Teil werden Konstruktionen von Alltag in medialen Deutungsangeboten thematisiert: Alltag in den Medien wird u.a. anhand von Reality-TV, Geschlechterinszenierungen in Serien sowie Konventionen im Journalismus untersucht. In den Beitragen des zweiten Teils stehen Prozesse der Medienaneignung in Alltagskontexten im Mittelpunkt: Um Medien im Alltag zu beleuchten, wird der Gebrauch von Print-, Digital- und anderen Medien in ihrer Verflechtung mit alltaglichen Praktiken analysiert. Die versammelten Beitrage stellen dabei vielfaltige Theoriebezuge her, so zu den Cultural Studies, den Gender Media Studies und den Arbeiten von Pierre Bourdieu.

In dem Band werden Verschrankungen von Medien- und Alltagserfahrungen auf unterschiedliche Weise konzeptualisiert und theoretisiert. Verknupft werden diese Zugange mit Untersuchungen der sozialen Bedeutung von Medien wie von medialen Deutungsangeboten im Gebrauch. Die Mediatisierung zentraler kultureller Praktiken - etwa der Liebe, Freundschaft, des Glaubens, des Spiels, des Sports, des Umgangs mit dem Korper etc. - wird somit gesellschaftstheoretisch wie empirisch diskutiert."

Ungleiche soziale Verhaltnisse und eine fehlende soziale Integration stehen im Widerspruch zu den Gleichheitsgrundsatzen moderner demokratischer Gesellschaften. Real war is a cruel theater of death, yet it is also an exciting narrative exploited for national, political and commercial purposes and turned into numerous films, television shows, computer games, news stories and reenactment plays.
