For most of its existence, the ANC Youth League has played a
powerful role in the politics of the ANC, and therefore of South
Africa. This book tells the history of the ANC Youth League, from
its formation in 1944 to the present day.
The book explores the radicalising role played by its early
leaders, such as Nelson Mandela, Walter Sisulu and O.R. Tambo; the
formation of the ANC Youth and Students Section in exile, first led
by Thabo Mbeki; the return from exile in the 1990s and the
leadership of Peter Mokaba; the controversies around the
appointment of Julius Malema and his subsequent sacking; and the
absence of Youth League leadership in the #FeesMustFall movement
and current South African politics. Finally, the book considers the
role that the Youth League should play in the future.
This is a fascinating glimpse into a vital and volatile
institution in South African politics.
For our world to survive, and thrive, we need people who can lead the way to a better future for everyone, be that in corporate, government, or society in general. What we need is great leadership – not mediocre leadership; and an attitude of ever-learning, growing and developing.
Business leaders have a financial and moral obligation to uplift the people of this country. A narrow focus on profit won’t achieve that, but a culture that puts people first can. We need ethical leaders, visionary leaders, empathic leaders, courageous leaders, forward-thinking leaders, transformational leaders, human-centric leaders, purposeful leaders, curious leaders. This book is the antidote to the lack of mentorship, and is the
resource for the saying: When the student is ready, the teacher will appear.
Incorporating the collective leadership wisdom for both the leaders of tomorrow and for the leaders of today, The Book Every Leader Needs to Read is full of lessons, insights, pep talks, advice and direction for building your own style and approach to great leadership, and not shy away from the ecstasy (and sometimes agony) of becoming a significant leader. If you are striving for excellence as a leader, get your pen
and notebook ready, start reading and make notes from the thousands of hours of lived experiences, and list what you can start doing, right now, to craft the art of leading.
Many people believe that quitting your job and becoming an entrepreneur is a romantic notion, but being your own boss isn’t just about freedom. Nor is it about the status that comes your way when you innovate the product or service that no one knew, until now, they simply could not live without. And it’s not even about the amazing
income you’ll be getting when your start-up hits the big time.
Entrepreneurship is none of these things. It’s about plain hard work which often garners little – if any – reward. It’s about keeping going even when you feel you have no more to give and remaining focused and consistent when all you want to do is walk away. It’s about searching through dustbins for business, leaving no stone
unturned. Abed Tau knows this because he has walked the entrepreneurial road many times. Having started a number of businesses – some successful, others not – he knows what it’s like, and what it takes, to be an entrepreneur.
While entrepreneurship may ultimately be richly rewarding, it’s important to know some of the challenges upfront before you set off to chase your dream. In Searching Through Dustbins, Abed shares his experiences with candour and humour, painting an honest picture of the life of an entrepreneur. Essential reading for any would-be or start-up business owner, it’s a vital insight into what to expect and it also provides pragmatic advice for starting or building a business.
Searching Through Dustbins comes from the heart and speaks to the heart. It will inspire and motivate you, while ensuring that your entrepreneurial dreams and aspirations stay on track.
The ACT Clergy Handbook is an invaluable tool for Gnostic clergy in
formation. It is a useful reference book for all levels of clergy,
and a fascinating glimpse into Gnostic theology, exegesis, history,
and liturgical practice for anyone interested in ecclesiastical
Gnosticism. Included are liturgies, theurgic operations,
theoretical studies, and a comprehensive outline of the entire
Minor Orders curriculum. Also includes the full text of The
Kybalion and the Sepher Yetzirah.
At the core, it doesn't matter what you believe governs the fate of
man and Earth, what matters is that humans, as a global society,
build a future that is sustainable and peaceful. This is the
ultimate human evolutionary development, this is our challenge. By
tracing our existence from where we began to what we have become
today, this book explores the evolution and, should we continue on
our current path, the subsequent possible obsolescence of human
beings. Far from a doomsday tome, The Fishbowl Principle challenges
readers to expand their worldview. We need to change our measure of
a successful life from simply existing to prospering. The authors
refuse to accept that life as we exist today is "as good as it
gets." We argue that humans have reached a fragile tipping point;
and that instead of fragmenting and isolating ourselves in a future
of despair, we can and will work together to an even higher apex.
As a human race, we examine what can be achieved if we look to our
similarities instead of our differences. If we could harness
communication as a powerful and cost effective tool to bring us
together and educate ourselves in a way that fosters sustainable
and responsible population growth, the positive transformation to
our lives would be immeasurable. Whether you exist today as a
peasant in a tribal setting or as an urban dweller we explore
fostering a sense of global community based on common ground, not
just niche existence. We present tangible alternatives and pose
thought-provoking questions. Our vision is a collaborative one, and
requires your participation. A path back to evolution starts with
you, and includes all of us.
The family's second child, Gareth, weighed in at nine pounds, six
ounces and was healthy, but it was soon evident he wasn't like
other babies. With few other comparisons, it took a while for the
family to realize that Gareth's strange behaviors were more serious
than simple eccentricities. At the age of five, Gareth was
diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder, or PDD, a form of
autism. Finally, the family had a name to put to Gareth's tantrums
and defiance-but the battle was far from over. Now, with a deeper
understanding of his mental state and abilities, the family was
better equipped to understand his unique needs. But what about the
rest of the world and what would his future entail? In Raising
Buckshot: A Family's Experience with Autism, a loving mother shares
the story of raising a child with special needs. Seasoned with
humor and hope, J.Tau reminisces over the trials and victories
bringing up her autistic son, a story that is sure to inspire.

The culmination of the Alpha Psi Tau Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa
Honor Society's Honors in Action Project, this anthology brings
together short stories and family tales from throughout the
society's chapters. Each tale is unique as it is the personal tale
of each of our members and memories they wish to perserve in an age
of fading personal storytelling.
A uniquely collaborative analysis of human adaptation to the
Polynesian islands, told through oral histories, biophysical
evidence, and historical records Humans began to settle the area we
know as Polynesia between 3,000 and 800 years ago, bringing with
them material culture, including plants and animals, and ideas
about societal organization, and then adapting to the specific
biophysical features of the islands they discovered. The authors of
this book analyze the formation of their human-environment systems
using oral histories, biophysical evidence, and historical records,
arguing that the Polynesian islands can serve as useful models for
how human societies in general interact with their environments.
The islands' clearly defined (and relatively isolated)
environments, comparatively recent discovery by humans, and
innovative and dynamic societies allow for insights not available
when studying other cultures. Kamana Beamer, Te Maire Tau, and
Peter Vitousek have collaborated with a dozen other scholars, many
of them Polynesian, to show how these cultures adapted to novel
environments in the past and how we can draw insights for global
sustainability today.

Torah for Today is composed of a series of articles written by
Esther Taus for the monthly Temple publication, the Bulletin.
Compiled over 22 years of writing, this work deals with the
practical application of biblical principles and contemporary
concerns. The essays are both informative and challenging. They
mediate between the technical world of contemporary religious
scholarship and the everyday reality of ethical decisions and
piety. The order of presentation of the essays follows the reading
program of Reform Judaism, which starts with the High Holy Days
(usually in September), and continues for a twelve-month study of
the Pentateuch (Bible). Every year different sections of the Bible
are studied, and the cycle is repeated. While the book addresses
primarily secular readers, people of all faiths and backgrounds are
encouraged to discover, or re-discover, the understanding of
religions through this extensive analysis of Judaism.
