Unlike some other reproductions of classic texts (1) We have not
used OCR(Optical Character Recognition), as this leads to bad
quality books with introduced typos. (2) In books where there are
images such as portraits, maps, sketches etc We have endeavoured to
keep the quality of these images, so they represent accurately the
original artefact. Although occasionally there may be certain
imperfections with these old texts, we feel they deserve to be made
available for future generations to enjoy.
Planetary Crusts explains how and why solid planets and satellites
develop crusts. Extensively referenced and annotated, it presents a
geochemical and geological survey of the crusts of the Moon,
Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars, the asteroid Vesta, and several
satellites like Io, Europa, Ganymede, Titan and Callisto. After
describing the nature and formation of solar system bodies, the
book presents a comparative investigation of different planetary
crusts and discusses many crustal controversies. The authors
propose the theory of stochastic processes dominating crustal
development, and debate the possibility of Earth-like planets
existing elsewhere in the cosmos. Written by two leading
authorities on the subject, this book presents an extensive survey
of the scientific problems of crustal development, and is a key
reference for researchers and students in geology, geochemistry,
planetary science, astrobiology and astronomy.
An Island in the Stream, a collaboration between Cuban and American
writers and scholars, is a diverse collection of ecocritical and
literary responses to the natural environment in Cuba and to Cuban
environmental culture. The chapters explore Cuba's vibrant cultural
history with particular attention to literature and the visual and
performing arts, which are viewed through such lenses as
ecofeminism, postcolonial ecocriticism, multiculturalism, and the
nuclear imaginary, among others. American environmentalists have
long viewed modern Cuba as a model of progressive environmental
thinking. In the 1990s, the Cuban government made sustainability a
centerpiece of national policy initiatives. This book explores some
of the historical foundations of contemporary sustainability
efforts in Cuba, while also describing the current environmental
situation in that part of the world. From Jose Marti to Excilia
Saldana, from Antonio Nunez Jimenez to Lydia Cabrera, the chapters
here aim to provide a starting point for others who wish to learn
about Cuban environmental thought. The conjunction of scholarly and
creative work is a gesture toward the interdependence of humanities
research and artistic expression, both of which seek to encourage
environmental and cultural mindfulness and sensitivity.

The goal of the first edition of Interventional Critical Care: A
Manual for Advanced Care Practitioners was to fill a knowledge gap
of the advanced practice provider (APP) specifically regarding the
skills and understanding of critical care procedures in response to
the rapidly expanding participation of APPs in critical care.
Written by experts in the field, this successor edition adds to the
content of the first by expanding upon ultrasonography areas to
include more direct hemodynamic evaluations as well as the newer
"e"FAST. It also explores the specialty of Urology to include more
complex interventions. As billing and coding are necessary, the
authors added appropriate CPT codes for each of the appropriate
chapters. Most chapters have been completely re-written and updated
from the first edition and have different authors - thereby a
different perspective and experience level. Interventional Critical
Care 2nd Edition serves as a valuable reference for physicians and
advanced practice providers in daily practice in the ICU, OR and/or
ED setting.
