Whether it's a soaring eagle or a restlessly gliding owl, chances
are you will know a bird of prey when you see one, and there is
something in the way they fly that captivates our gaze. But can you
tell a Goshawk from a Peregrine? Or distinguish between a Common
Buzzard and Honey Buzzard in flight? The UK has just 16 species of
raptors and five owls, but among them are some of the world's most
spectacular birds. RSPB ID Spotlight Birds of Prey is a reliable
fold-out chart that presents illustrations of all 21 of the UK's
birds of prey by renowned artist Stephen Message. - Species are
grouped by family and helpfully labelled to assist with
identification - Artworks are shown side by side for quick
comparison and easy reference at home or in the field - The reverse
of the chart provides information on the habitats, behaviour, life
cycles and diets of our birds of prey, as well as the conservation
issues they are facing and how the RSPB is working to support them
- Information on successful UK raptor reintroductions and other
campaigns that help our birds of prey are also included The RSPB ID

This ground-breaking text provides a comprehensive guide to the
occupational therapy profession in Australia, from the profession's
role in the health care system to the broad scope and nature of its
practice. The book is organised into three sections: the Australian
context; professional issues and practice issues. Contributions
from 80 Australian occupational therapists working in education,
research, policy and practice bring together the most relevant and
up-to-date information in this essential book. The authors begin
the Australian environment section with an overview of the
Australian health care system, a history of occupational therapy in
Australia and the role of Australian occupational therapy
professional associations and regulatory bodies. The values and
philosophy of occupational therapy, ethical and legal aspects of
practice and the role of occupational therapy in population health
and health promotion are considered next. The professional issues
covered in the book include using effective communication skills,
client-centred practice principles and a strength-based approach
when working with individuals, families, groups, communities,
organisations and populations. Additional topics, including
occupational science, the education of occupational therapists,
research in occupational therapy, evidence-based practice clinical
reasoning and occupational therapy models of practice, are also
covered in the middle section of the book. Occupational Therapy in
Australia: Practice and Process Issues is established as the
essential practice reference for students, practitioners and
educators in Australia. This second edition has been revised and
updated throughout and includes new chapters on communication
skills, environmental aspects of occupational therapy practice and
decolonising occupational therapy through a strength-based approach
to practice.

The second of four volumes containing the edited texts,
commentaries and source notes for each of the nearly nine hundred
occasions of special worship and for each of the annual
commemorations in England and Wales, Scotland, and Ireland. Since
the sixteenth century, the governments and established churches of
the British Isles have summoned the nation to special acts of
public worship during periods of anxiety and crisis, at times of
celebration, or for annual commemoration and remembrance. These
special prayers, special days of worship and anniversary
commemorations were national events, reaching into every parish in
England and Wales, in Scotland, and in Ireland. They had
considerable religious, ecclesiastical, political, ideological,
moral and social significance, and they produced important texts:
proclamations, council orders, addresses and - in England and
Wales, and in Ireland - prayers or complete liturgieswhich for
specified periods supplemented or replaced the services in the Book
of Common Prayer. Many of these acts of special worship and most of
the texts have escaped historical notice. National Prayers. Special
Worship since the Reformation, in four volumes, provides the edited
texts, commentaries and source notes for each of the nearly nine
hundred occasions of special worship, and for each of the annual
commemorations. The second volume,General Fasts, Thanksgivings and
Special Prayers in the British Isles 1689-1870, contains the texts
and commentaries for the numerous and frequent special prayers,
fast days and thanksgivings during the wars which consolidated the
1688 revolution, through the long imperial wars of the eighteenth
century, and the wars against revolutionary and Napoleonic France,
as well as prayers and thanksgivings associated with Jacobite
risings, epidemics, socialunrest, and episodes in the lives of the
kings and queens.

While Hume remains one of the most central figures in modern
philosophy his place within Enlightenment thinking is much less
clearly defined. Taking recent work on Hume as a starting point,
this volume of original essays aims to re-examine and clarify
Hume's influence on the thought and values of the Enlightenment.

The coastal tropics comprise some of the most sensitive and yet the
most understudied ecosystems in the world. Coastal plains and river
valleys are also home to agriculture on a vast scale, and it is not
surprising to find that streams and rivers receive the majority of
agricultural runoff, carrying the residues of insecticides,
fungicides and other pesticides into estuaries and coastal zones.
There is a growing awareness of the urgent need to develop
strategies to help productive, healthy and economically viable
agriculture to coexist with natural resources. Pesticide Residues
in Tropical Coastal Ecosystems brings together toxicology experts
from around the world to assess pesticide burdens in many of the
major food-producing tropical countries. It provides a unique set
of case studies, chronicling pesticide usage and its
ecotoxicological impact in coastal regions. A practical guide to
recent research findings and applications, it is essential reading
for environmental professionals, ecotoxicologists, marine chemists
and agrochemists.

Despite their growing presence, research on Caribbean and,
especially, African immigrants has been scant. The scarcity of
writings on these 'other' African Americans contributes to the
invisibility of these groups. The objective of this project is to
broaden our understanding of these other African Americans. A focus
on intra-racial dynamics among African Americans is important
because of the ever-growing diversity of America's black
population. The Other African Americans is an edited volume of
original research that provides historical and contemporary
information on African and Caribbean individuals and families. Each
chapter addresses a particular topical area covering the most
salient issues facing these immigrants to the U.S. today.

A compact, lightweight and informative guide to 310 of the most
common birds found in the UK. RSPB Pocket Guide to British Birds is
a compact, lightweight and informative field guide, featuring 310
bird species regularly seen in the UK. Species are illustrated in
all distinct plumage forms likely to be observed in the wild by
renowned bird artist Stephen Message, and a detailed distribution
map for the British Isles is also provided. Concise text covers
appearance, behaviour and voice - focusing on key identification
points - and also outlines where you will find the species,
describes its seasonal movements and includes the latest UK
population data. Finally, confusion species are cross-referenced,
with their most important and easily noted differences from the
subject species described. A comprehensive introduction provides a
guide on how and where to find birds, and how to make the most
useful and rewarding observations for newcomers to birdwatching.
Uniquely, this guide also provides images and descriptions for not
only a selection of rarer visitors, but also for a range of
domestic species and certain commonly observed aberrant forms of
more familiar birds, all of which are omitted from most field
guides but can cause great confusion for beginners when encountered
in the wild.

The return of the once-dormant economies of China and India to
dynamism and growth is one of the most remarkable stories in recent
history. The two countries are home to nearly 40 percent of the
world's population, but until recently neither had played an
influential role in the contemporary global economy. In the past
two decades, China and India have liberalized internal economic
policy, treatment of foreign investment, and trade, and have
experienced economic growth at sustained high rates. From the point
of view of the United States, however, the most important
development in the Chinese and Indian economies in the long term
may be the strides they are making in developing their own domestic
innovation capacities. After a long period of underinvestment, both
countries have committed to growing their science and education
systems to bolster research and further economic expansion. Some
observers of the recent growth have said that both countries are
surging in their efforts to spur innovation; others have emphasized
the potential of one country over the other; and still others have
suggested that both China and India have a long way to go before
achieving innovation-driven growth. With such a range of views, The
National Academies set out to describe developments in both
countries, in relation to each other and the rest of the world, by
organizing a conference in Washington, D.C. The conference,
summarized in this volume, discussed recent changes at both the
macroeconomic level and also in selected industries, and explored
the causes and implications of those changes.
