In a career that spans four decades, Bonnie Raitthas won nine
Grammy awards, sold over 15 million albums, been inducted into the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and earned widespread critical acclaim
as an expressive vocalist and formidable guitarist (she is one of
the few women to play bottleneck slide guitar). Since the release
of her self-titled debut in 1971, Raitt has adeptly mixed her own
compositions with classic blues tunes and material from
up-and-coming singer-songwriters. 1989's Nick Of Timewas a pivotal
album for Bonnie, marking numerous firsts. It was her first record
for Capitol, her first collaboration with producer Don Was and
brought Raitt her first Grammy wins. At the 1990 Grammy Awards, she
took home three awards for the album and a fourth for a
collaboration with John Lee Hooker. Within a month, Raitt had her
first #1 album -- exactly 52 weeks after Nick Of Time'srelease and
almost 19 years after her first record. The Best Of Bonnie
Raittfeatures four songs from the quadruple-platinum Nick Of Time,
the poignant title track, with its keen observations on aging and
relationships, the rollicking John Hiatt-penned "Thing Called Love"
and two Bonnie Hayes songs -- "Have a Heart" and "Love Letter."
