'The songs on the first album are the children. The songs on the second album are their parents. Ghosteen is a migrating spirit.' - Nick Cave.
Using the cheap desktop publishing techniques of 'zine culture,
and supplementing them with an extensive presence on the World Wide
Web, the Bad Subjects Production Team has produced one of the only
successful political 'zines in the US, as well as one of the
first--and longest-running--on-line publications in the world.
Bad Subjects offers a critique of the post-1960s left in the
United States, and attempts to reclaim a utopian vision for a
political movement which has become fragmented and cynical about
the possibility of social transformation. Indeed, Bad Subjects
itself is simultaneously a valuable resource and an inspiration, a
record of what politically-engaged cultural criticism can achieve,
and an example of a progressive political community making use of
new technologies.
Offering a way out of vulgar multiculturalism--based on
separatism and the idea of "authenticity"--into a critical identity
politics founded on coalitions, hybridity, and class consciousness,
Bad Subjectsspeaks to readers both in and outside of the academy.
Taking their cue from the feminist slogan, "the personal is
political," and from Marxist injunctions to study "everyday life,"
Bad Subjects covers everything from popular culture and high
technology to economic restructuring and political organizing, from
Raymond Williams to The Dead Kennedys.
In the terrain of cultural criticism, Bad Subjects is an
off-road vehicle roaring away from the beaten path.
My poetry and writings are unique and different in all aspects of
previous written poetry books and details a story of horrific
events that I have gone through, after my return from a twelve-year
stay in Germany. The books I have written involve many people, such
as Hollywood movie stars, the United States government, my
children, and prospective wives I attempted to have after my
divorce from a previous eighteen years of marriage to a German
woman. The events are of me being stalked and pressured into
homelessness, denied human rights, and mentally terrorized. The
poetry in this book is part of a long story, which has taken to
this point eight years of my life. This book is a part of an eleven
book series, which contains eight books in English and three in
German.

DO WHAT YOU WANT: The Story of Bad Religion reveals the ups and
downs of the band's 40-year career. From their beginnings as
teenagers jamming in a San Fernando Valley garage dubbed "The Hell
Hole" to headlining major music festivals around the world, DO WANT
YOU WANT tells the whole story in irreverent style. While DO WHAT
YOU WANT tracks down nearly all of Bad Religion's members past and
present, the chief storytellers are the four voices that define Bad
Religion: Greg Graffin, a Wisconsin kid who sang in the choir and
became an L.A. punk rock icon while he was still a teenager; Brett
Gurewitz, a high school dropout who founded the independent punk
label Epitaph Records and went on to become a record mogul; Jay
Bentley, a surfer and skater who gained recognition as much for his
bass skills as for his onstage antics; and Brian Baker, a founding
member of Minor Threat who joined the band in 1994 and brings a
fresh perspective as an intimate outsider. With a unique blend of
melodic hardcore and thought-provoking lyrics, Bad Religion paved
the way for the punk rock explosion of the 1990s, opening the door
for bands like NOFX, The Offspring, Rancid, Green Day, and
Blink-182 to reach wider audiences. They showed the world what punk
could be, and they continue to spread their message one song, one
show, one tour at a time-with no signs of stopping.
