Das vorliegende Buch kann als eine neue und erweiterte Auflage des unter dem Titel: "Die chemischen Untersuchungsmethoden des 1 Deutschen Arzneibuches" erschienenen Berichtes ) iiber die wissen schaftliche Tatigkeit des vom 5. bis 15. August 1901 abgehaltenen Fort bildungskurses fiir Apotheker zur Einfiihrung in die 4. Ausgabe des Deutschen Arzneibuches aufgefaBt werden. Der harmonische Verlauf jenes Kurses, zu dem sich eine sehr stattliche Anzahl von Apothekern aus ganz Wiirttemberg eingefunden hatten, wird mir stets in angenehmer Erinnerung bleiben. Wie damals wurde auch wahrend der beiden jetzt in Miinchen veranstalteten Fortbildungskurse seitens der Teilnehmer der Wunsch geauBert, eine kurze Darstellung der in den theoretischen Vorlesungen behandelten Lehrgegenstande sowie der wahrend der praktischen tJbungen gegebenen Anleit gen zu besitzen, die sie als Ratgeber bei Ausfiihrung der Arzneimitteluntersuchungen in der Apo theke benutzen konnten. Der ungewohnlich groBe Zwischenraum von 16 Jahren zwischen der 5. und 6. Ausgabe des Deutschen Arzneibuches sowie die groBen Fort schritte der Medizin, Pharmazie und der hier in Betracht kommenden anderen Zweige der Naturwissenschaften hatten viele Neuerungen zur Folge. Aus diesemGrunde muBtederLehrstoff der jetzigenKurse gegen uber den im Jahre 1901 in Tiibingen und 1911 in Miinchen (5. Ausgabe) abgehaltenen Kursen wesentlich erweitert und vertieft werden. Dies betraf insbesondere folgende Lehrgegenstande: die kolloiden Arznei mittel, die Theorie und Anwendung der Indikatoren, die pharmako logische Wertbestimmung von Drogen und galenischen Praparaten, Aligemeines iiber Sera, Tuberkuline, Vakzine sowie Salvarsane."
