After the death of Dr. Littlefield it was decided that I should
undertake the revision ofthe whole of Atomic and Nuclear Physics:
an Introduction for the third edition, and it was soon apparent
that major changes were necessary. I am confident that these
changes would have had Dr. Littlefield's approval. The prime
consideration for the present edition has been to modernize at a
minimum cost. As much as possible of the second edition has
therefore been retained, but where changes have been made they have
been fairly drastic. Thus the chapters on fine structure, wave
mechanics, the vector model of the atom, Pauli's principle and the
Zeeman effect have been completely restructured. The chapters on
nuclear models, cosmic rays, fusion systems and fundamental
particles have been brought up to date while a new chapter on charm
and the latest ideas on quarks has been included. It is hoped that
the presentation of the last named will give readers a feeling that
physics research can be full of adventure and surprises.
THE ANALYSIS AND DESIGN OF LINEAR CIRCUITS Textbook covering the
fundamentals of circuit analysis and design, now with additional
examples, exercises, and problems The Analysis and Design of Linear
Circuits, 10th Edition, taps into engineering students desire to
explore, create, and put their learning into practice by presenting
linear circuit theory, with an emphasis on circuit analysis and how
to evaluate competing designs. The text integrates active and
passive linear circuits, allowing students to understand and design
a wide range of circuits, solve analytical problems, and devise
solutions to problems. The authors use both phasors and Laplace
techniques for AC circuits, enabling better understanding of
frequency response, filters, AC power, and transformers. The
authors have increased the integration of MATLAB® and Multisim in
the text and revised content to be up-to-date with technology when
appropriate. The text uses a structured pedagogy where objectives
are stated in each chapter opener and examples and exercises are
developed so that the students achieve mastery of each objective.
The available problems revisit each objective and a suite of
problems of increasing complexity task the students to check their
understanding. Topics covered in The Analysis and Design of Linear
Circuits, 10th Edition, include: Basic circuit analysis, including
element, connection, combined, and equivalent circuits, voltage and
current division, and circuit reduction Circuit analysis
techniques, including node-voltage and mesh-current analysis,
linearity properties, maximum signal transfer, and interface
circuit design Signal waveforms, including the step, exponential,
and sinusoidal waveforms, composite waveforms, and waveform partial
descriptors Laplace transforms, including signal waveforms and
transforms, basic properties and pairs, and pole-zero and Bode
diagrams Network functions, including network functions of one- and
two-port circuits, impulse response, step response, and sinusoidal
response An appendix that lists typical RLC component values and
tolerances along with a number of reference tables and OP AMP
building blocks that are foundational for analysis and design. With
an overarching goal of instilling smart judgment surrounding design
problems and innovative solutions, The Analysis and Design of
Linear Circuits, 10th Edition, provides inspiration and motivation
alongside an essential knowledge base. The text is designed for two
semesters and is complemented with robust supplementary material to
enhance various pedagogical approaches, including an Instructors
Manual which features an update on how to use the book to
complement the 2022-23 ABET accreditation criteria, 73 lesson
outlines using the new edition, additional Instructor Problems, and
a Solutions Manual. These resources can be found on the companion

The first intellectual history of interreligious dialogue, a
relatively new and significant dimension of human religiosity "[A]
fast-paced history of interreligious dialogue . . . For those new
to the field or interested in looking at where we've been and how
we came to be here, this book is a very good place to start."-Emily
Soloff, Christian Century In recent decades, organizations
committed to interreligious or interfaith dialogue have
proliferated, both in the Western and non-Western worlds. Why? How
so? And what exactly is interreligious dialogue? These are the
touchstone questions of this book, the first major history of
interreligious dialogue in the modern age. Thomas Albert Howard
narrates and analyzes several key turning points in the history of
interfaith dialogue before examining, in the conclusion, the
contemporary landscape. While many have theorized about and
practiced interreligious dialogue, few have attended carefully to
its past, connecting its emergence and spread with broader
developments in modern history. Interreligious dialogue-grasped in
light of careful, critical attention to its past-holds promise for
helping people of diverse faith backgrounds to foster cooperation
and knowledge of one another while contributing insight into
contemporary, global religious pluralism.
