Die jungste Arbeit von Bemd Heinrich, die er in seinem Buch Bumblebee Economics wunderbar zusammen gefasst hatte, zeigte den Erfolg einer besonderen Sichtweise: Er betrachtete das Hummelvolk als oekonomische Einheit, die durch die naturliche Selektion dazu gebracht worden war, ihre Energie ressourcen effektiv zu sammeln und zu verwerten. Mich fesselte der Gedanke, diese Sichtweise auf Honigbienen anzuwenden.
