This volume reveals the behaviour and design of cold-formed steel
structures, connections and systems. It describes the AISI
Specification for the Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural
Members published in July 2000, which governs the design of all
cold-formed steel frames, including roof, wall and racking systems,
and cold-formed steel residential construction in the USA. The text
offers worked examples which can be programmed using MATHCAD or
EXCEL.
"The Language of Sadomasochism" contains vocabulary and defines
activities that many will find offensive. It has been published to
aid linguists, folklorists, sociologists, psychologists, and other
adult researchers develop a better understanding of this
subculture.
"The Language of Sadomasochism" represents the first systematic,
comprehensive account ever attempted of the specialized terminology
used by sadomasochists. The work is divided into three distinct
sections. Part one provides a thorough introduction to the
subculture of sadomasochism, its history in the Western world, and
its place in American culture, in literature, and in the work of
non-linguist social scientists. Part two is a comprehensive
glossary of more than 800 terms currently in use among
sadomasochists. For each term the authors provide part-of-speech
labels, etymologies, definitions, citations illustrating actual
usage, related forms of the word, cross references to semantically
and conceptually related terms, and special notes on usage. Part
three contains a linguistic analysis of the terminology and
illustrates how the language of sadomasochism is related both to
the English language as a whole and to the sadomasochists who use
the specialized language. The book concludes with a complete
bibliography of all references cited, a list of difficult-to-find
sadomasochism-related periodicals, and an index providing easy
access to groups of semantically and conceptually related
terms.
This up-to-the-minute reference comprehensively covers the behavior
and design of cold-formed steel structures, connections, and
systems-describing the latest edition of, and amendment to, the
American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) Specification for the
Design of Cold-Formed Steel Structural Members published in July
2000, which governs the design of all cold-formed steel structures,
including roof, wall, and rack systems, and cold-formed steel
residential construction in the USA. Offers worked examples which
can be programmed using MATHCADTM or EXCELTM as well as useful
references in every chapter Cold-Formed Steel Structures to the
AISI Specification details contemporary applications for steel

buckling modes of thin-walled members effective width equations for

This book presents a political understanding of socio-economic
rights by contextualising constitution-makers' and judges'
decision-making in terms of Ireland's rich history of people's
struggles for justice 'from below' between 1848 and the present.
Its theoretical framework incorporates critical legal studies and
world-systems analysis. It performs a critical discourse analysis
of constitution-making processes in 1922 and 1937 as well as
subsequent property, trade union, family and welfare rights case
law. It traces the marginalisation of socio-economic rights in
Ireland from specific, local and institutional factors to the
contested balance of core-peripheral and social relations in the
world-system. The book demonstrates the endurance of ideological
understandings of state constitutionalism as inherently neutral
between interests. Unemployed marches, housing protestors and
striking workers, however, provided important challenges and
oppositional discourses. Recognising these enduring forms of power
and ideology is vital if we are to assess critically the
possibilities and limits of contesting socio-economic rights today.
This book presents a personal collection of ancestor sculpture and
protective deities, following the ancient migratory and trade
routes of the Austronesian, Southeast Asian Bronze Age, and
Hindu-Buddhist peoples. The author, Thomas Murray, has spent a
lifetime studying this art through his endeavours as a peripatetic
dealer, collector, and field researcher. The objects illustrated
come from a swath of widely varied cultures from Nepal eastward to
Hawaii, with the overwhelming majority from Indonesia and Southeast
Asia. Murray's eye is highly informed and based on an unusually
large sampling of objects to which his experience and research have
exposed him. The artworks documented represent some of the top
examples he has acquired and retained over the course of a long
career. They are characterised by sculptural balance and a harmony
of line, as well as a rare quality of expressiveness. Each ranks
high in terms of aesthetics and desirability within its own
particular style as perceived by the art market and by other
western aficionados.
