When faced with 'new' and 'different', are we really open-minded or
wary and suspicious? In a world obsessed with the latest tech or
trend, where groupthink dominates, it's easy to close down our
thinking; to mentally inhabit a space that is both comfortable and
familiar. Yet what if we've become stuck in our ways? Or stopped
having an opinion that was truly our own? Do Agile is about
resetting our minds and moving forward. Tim Drake shows us that to
work effectively in any organisation and in life in general, we
require a mindset that is open, alert, engaged and positive. And
importantly, aligned with our core principles. You will: -Define
your values as they change over time -Find out how 'giving back'
leads to a positive mindset -Reignite a desire to learn -Retrain
your mind to think more autonomously. Today's world requires a new
type of toolkit. One that helps build mental resilience, a growth
mindset, and a positive outlook. Once that's in place, you can do
practically anything.
Many people in their fifties or sixties (and even their forties and
seventies) have moved from being the gilded generation, to finding
themselves with a reduced income or a skinny pension. Whether such
changes are down to choice or circumstance, this powerful new book
from thought leader Tim Drake, shows us how we can have a second
bite of the cherry and make a new future work for us. Taking a
second bite is more important than ever now that we live in a
society where the idea of what "work" entails is changing, and
where jobs, redundancy and retirement are evolving as concepts.
Many of us feel far too young to leave our jobs or retire, and many
more of us will find it financially challenging to do so. From the
Four Autonomies to the Seven Insidious Excuses Forcefully Rejected
by Highly Effective People, Drake proposes that we take positive,
conscious, control of our lives. We can then really develop our
sense of autonomy, lose our fixed mindsets and open ourselves up to
a growth mindset. This will enable us to adapt and flourish, and
can take a second bite of the cherry. Only then can we move into a
new and improved future whatever age we are.
My reason for writing this book is multifaceted. First, it is a
contemplative look back into a distinctive time in America's
history through the lives of my two grandfathers, Maurice Elmer
Drake and Archibald Vance Houston; and an examination of their
service to our great country during World War II. My life
intersected these two men as a result of my parent's loving choice
to adopt me as their son at the time of my birth. Second, it is a
critical look into our present situation as a nation, as compared
to and contrasted with our past, which I undertook with a burning
desire due to the personal impact of my grandfathers' service.
Lastly, this book is a consideration of the future of this great
country as it lies in the hands of my generation and outlines our
responsibilities: to protect it and to provide our descendants with
the inherited freedom that was earned in blood by the Greatest
Generation over sixty years ago. Please visit
